18/X/2012 - 33cl bottle from Dranken Geers (Oostakker) @ home - BB: n/a (2012-1145)

Clear dark orange beer, aery yellow head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very fruity, peaches, very sweet, honey, hints of bourbon and whisky, spicy, bit peppery, English black liquorice. MF: good carbon, full body, alcohol burn. Taste: sweet sugary start, honey, bitter piny touches, citrus, sugary, bourbon, Mandarin Napoleon (mandarin liquor). Aftertaste: sweet English liquorice, bitter resin, orange peel, some citrus, hoppy, quite sugary, honey. And yes, this is a bit too pricy... (+7 euro)

I donít know if itís my expectations of a boozy brew that trick me, but to me this clear light copper body sort of looks like a pale cognac. It does have a head, however, a small, frothy, eggnog coloured head that is rather short-lived, but still laces the glass pretty well. The aroma is rather strong, nice, special but actually a bit too much. Itís hoppy alright, but the malty parts are even stronger. Burnt sugar, overripe fruits and alcohol. The taste is so much better! A moderate to heavy sweet taste with a heavy bitter and long-lasting and very warming alcoholic finish. The fruity elements are not at all tropical or citric or the other stuff that I often find in ((I)I)IPAs, this is closer to fermented apples than succulent mango and peach. Also resin, cough syrup, burnt sugar, herbs like anise and faint spices and liquorice. The vinous body is full and has an oily texture and soft carbonation. Calling this stuff very drinkable is a bit far fetched, itís too violently alcoholic and bitter for that, but still a very nice sipper indeed.
[33 cl bottle, batch 185, enjoyed 5 years before BB date (why canít the breweries print the bottling date instead, thatís so much more interesting!), from Vinmonopolet Vika, Oslo]

A Heavy duty IIPA with all the right aromas and tastes. Banana, toffee, caramel, spice and zest all come together to create a powerful beer. Very thick and syrupy mouthfeel. I paired this with a Madras curry!

Pours a deep amber, clear, with a minimal white head. Aroma is rich, with caramel malt, spruce and resin, some citrus and grapefruit. Surprisingly fresh for a triple IPA. Taste is very boozy, with a clear port sweetness up front that slowly turns into a fairly balanced bitterness. As far as extreme IPAs go, I think they strike a nice balance, but of course, at 14% ABV itís way past the sweet spot for ABV versus absolute IPA taste, and itís definitely boozy, alcohol sweet and warming. Body is very rich and creamy, with almost no carbonation. Thereís a nice slight bitterness in the long, boozy finish. I quite enjoyed it.

Reminds me alot of yang from evil twin. Good mix between barleywine and IPA. Small offwhite head, with little to no lacing. Aroma of a barleywine, but the hops comes out when you taste it. Love it, will def buy again.

33cl, new exclusive Scottish brew Anno 2012, from Geers Oostakker, complex bitter brew, alcoholic/bitter and slightly sweet/fruity, heavy, yet balanced, clear, nearly no head, good brew, yet very expensive!, WOW!

Color is dark orange with a nice small head, bigger then I was expecting. The aroma is grapefruit, blue cheese, bread. Taste is tender and softer then I was expecting, syrupy-like, caramel, warming alcohol. Also the texture is oily and has no bubbles what so ever. One of the best beers Iíve had, if not the best.

330 ml bottle @ Christianssand Brygghus. A clear ruby red body with a moderate sized off-white head. Aroma is fruity with cookies and alcohol. Flavor is sweet, malty, dry fruit, warming alcohol and bitterness. Full body and bitter aftertaste. A very sweet, alcoholic and bitter beer. Almost like an IPA version of a barley wine, not unpleasant but quite huge in everything.
