COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tradition. Homage. Revolution.

When we brewed this beer, we shed blood, sweat and almost tears (we were somewhat the worse for wear after hosting a beer dinner at Musa the night before).

We wanted to showcase the awesome backbone of the Czech brewing tradition, the noble Saaz hop, and also tip our hats to the modern beers that rock our world, and the people who make them.

This is that beer, an imperious pilsner, 50kg of Saaz hops, 1400 kg of malt, 5000L of wort, 3 beer writers and 1 brilliant head brewer.

Has that mineral dry feeling I would expect. More fruity than I expected with some herbal/ earthy hops. The alcohol makes it seem not quite as clean as the classic pilsner but it is in the ballpark.

Slightly hazy golden body, white head. Aroma of alcohol, berries, medicinal hops and some bready, caramelly malt. Flavour has strong maltiness and herbal hops, fruits and alcohol. Semi dry. Bitter aftertaste. Too alcoholic.

Bottle from Brewdog.com. Ok I guess. Far too carbonated and not much flavour. I don’t know, I’m just not one for anything lager. I’m sure it’s a very good lager, just not for me.

Idiosynkrasie (518) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - APR 23, 2012
330ml bottle. Cloudy golden colour with average frothy, half-decent lacing, white head. Intense hoppy and grainy aroma, a slightly sweet mixture between strawberry and asparagus, a touch of fermenting honey. Taste has a continous dry/bitter hop note with a touch of juniper, an intermediate spruce-honey or pine-honey note, resulting in a bath salt-like, slightly soapy finish. Evolving, manifold taste with unpleasant interspersions.

Bottle and draft at the ABD launch at the Jolly Butchers, 31st March 2011. Rich copper colour, clear with a small white head. Clean hop nose. In the mouth there’s an infinity of Saaz with lots of bite at the finish. Alcoholic enough to warm the mouth if you hold a mouthful in.

Pours a brown dredge (more like orange actually) with a white head, almost no retention. The aroma is a bit stale. Hints of herbs and pepper. The flavour on the other hand is all pepper, with some fruit in the after-taste. Very Saazy. Quite bitter and meduim sweet. Low carbonation. This bottle was a bit old but I still think it managed to be more than the sum of its parts.

330 ml bottle. From brewdog.com/shop.
Hazy orange golden colour with small off-white head. Medicine, pleasant hops, moderate bitterness and yeast in aroma. Bitter grassy hops, alcohol and balancing maltiness in flavour. Warms nicely. Bitterness in aftertaste. Good for a strong pilsener.

Bottle at beer temple. Bold gold with plucky head. Sour nose. Taste is quite sweet, floral with fruits and malts. Enjoyable.
