Sampled as BrewDog Santa Paws Christmas Scotch ale Good dark cream head, collapsing over dark red-brown beer. Spicy nose, caramel, even toffee; treacle, café noir cookies. Bitterish, diluted coffee. Roasted, cake with coffee, caramel without sweetness. Light body, slickness. Aftertaste has a bit wry, astringent character; Better than the sum of its parts. Could grow on me.

Unusual for a ’Scotch Ale’ as this is reasonable well bslanced with restrained sweetness and more of a herbal quality. Brown with good head retention, this is very supple and has solid depth.

Tap at Brewdog Shepherds Bush, deep brown with a coffee crema, musty nose with hints of gravy and very faintly of honey. Dry and distantly tart, with touches of coffee, old wine and gravy.

Very dark, almost black. Low white to tan head. Aroma of coffee some subtle note of licorice. Unpleasant metallic trace in the aroma. Medium bitter and light sweet taste (could be sweter). Medium body, flat carbonation. Bitter and long finish
