Two years is a long time. Plus at BrewDog, we measure in dog years, which makes it feel like an eternity.
Back in 2012 we brewed this extra-small-batch prototype and rather than bottle it there and then (which we could have happily done) we locked it away in some gnarly old whisky barrels at the back of our Fraserburgh warehouse.
Before it even went into barrel, this stout had huge chocolate aromas and flavours, from the intense malt bill and cacao nibs, tempered with a roasty bitter espresso character and a spicy hop profile.
Two years in barrel has intensified the rich, round sweet malt flavours, and layered in deep chewy molasses, warming spicy brandy notes, and a liqueur coffee creaminess.
Black Eyed King Imp is an extremely small batch beer, and ultra-limited edition. This beer is worth spending an afternoon over, allowing the flavours to develop and unravel while you discuss philosophy/become one with the universe/ watch an entire box set of your choosing.

330ml bottle at home watching RWC 2015 - France v Canada. Bottled June 2014 at 11.8%. Black, bubbly brown head. Aroma is strong soy sweetness, dirty and sweet, light smoke, touch of petrol. Body is medium to full, smooth, rounded. Taste is semisweet, rounded, tangy. Chocolate, smoke, soy, light whisky, woody salty finish. No booze showing up. It has a nice balanced flavour despite the off-putting nose. A really nice flavour actually.

Bottle 33cl, a gift from my Summer Santa thanks ! A dark beer with medium copper head. Nose is very intense on fig, oak and black chocolate, creamy like. Aroma is exceptional on dark malt, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, oak, prune, smooth, complex, extremely well done, not too sweet as some high ABV imperial stout. Very long aftertaste, powerful, excellently balanced, sweet vanilla and fig notes than long dark coffee notes.

Bottle, thanks to TimE, 06/02/2015. Pours black, thin cream tan colored head fades to a fine haze on the surface, leaving some lacing. Aroma of chocolate with cacao nuttiness, caramel vanilla cream rounded with a touch of coffee, hint of spice in soft roast with wood, leather in the finish. Taste is on the sweeter side, at odds with the aroma, sweet dark chocolate with big anise notes, some soy/cola, barely balanced by coffee and lingering bitter roast, whiskey and heat to finish. Medium light body, could use more heft to round out the flavors and be very good. Tasty enough though.

Bottle from Pibar, Lausanne; batch 201, bb 20/06/24
Black color, medium sized head. Intense aroma; there is mellow chocolate, dark malts, hints of tobacco and leather (not oxidized), a bit of booze. Lean body, the sweetness is cut in half by the high alcohol content; dark malts, dark caramel flavor, a bit chocolatey; the light coffee presence adds a bit of complexity; the alcohol can be clearly perceived.
The flavor is better when the beer is colder (sharper), the aroma develops when the beer gets warmer.

Bottle - Dark roast and sweet boozy notes and some chocolate. Deep jet black with a decent beige head. Sweet syrupy and dark chocolate with a bit of a boozy finish. Lots of roast and syrup.

330mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings lots of roasted malt, fudge, cocoa nibs and a touch of coffee. Flavour is quite rich, with cocoa nibs, fudge and a touch of coffee. Thick and sludgy, with a chocolatey body. A little much, but still lovely in small amounts.
