2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 foxo82 (161) - Leicestershire, ENGLAND - MAR 15, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 16, 2012 On tap at BrewDog Nottingham. Dark red with a decent head. Pleasant aroma of grapefruit, syrup and hops. Aroma gives way to a taste that is far more bitter than the ABV would have you believe. Long bitter finish. However, I found it hard to drink - the quality of the aroma didn’t quite translate into the flavour department, which was a bit washed out. Still, the best lower alcohol beer I’ve ever had.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Palme (1437) - Bergen, NORWAY - MAR 15, 2012
0.33l bottle from BrewDog Webshop. This one pours a crystal clear mild-cola brown body with a medium sized beige head. Aroma is malty with a good dash of american hops, tones of something light burned. Rubber perhaps? And hints of beef stock. A average carbonation level and a somewhat thin oily mouthfeel on this one. Lots of burned tones in the favor as well. Could just be the hops confusing my buds, because there is a lot of them here. It somehow reminds me of drinking warm sparkling mineral water. Dry, not mouthdrying, but dry. Long bitter and kinda sweetish aftertaste. Drinkable as a alternative, not my first choice. 26.01.2012
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 ClubGonzo (1966) - Bergen, NORWAY - FEB 22, 2012
Bottle, courtesy of Kai-Sindre but actually from BrewDog, who messed up the bottle count on a mail order so we got this for free - thanks guys! :-D Shared with BBGTC. Pours a caramel brown body with a small white head. Nose is grassy earthy tones (Chinook? Sooo similar, at least...) Taste is dry grassy hops, hints of caramel and peaches. Light bodies, balanced and rather nice. Dry mouthfeel, which suits perfectly. This is really a good and fresh low alcohol - so why isn’t it in that category? Strange.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 rosenbergh (3486) - Helsinki, FINLAND - FEB 21, 2012
Draught at BrewDog Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scotland.
Dark amber colour with small white head.
Dry wood, berry, hops and mild caramel in aroma.
Mild bitterness and lots of maltiness in flavour.
Nice low abv brew.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 iammarc (315) - Inverness, SCOTLAND - FEB 14, 2012
Brewdog Edinburgh. Pours reddish/dark colour, strong lasting head. Obvious low ABV results in short finish. A bit grassy. Not bad if you like a low abv.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 omegamike (90) - York, North Yorkshire, ENGLAND - FEB 12, 2012
Looks and smells really promising - a nice clear amber body, with plenty of citrus hops leaping out of the glass. Some lemon and lime, candied peel, not much malt in the aroma. Tastes like watery tangerines with a patently lacking malt backing providing little to contrast or compliment the hop flavours. Probably the best sub 3% beer I’ve tried in a while... but that’s not really a tough competition.
2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 WASW (46) - - FEB 2, 2012
Super hoppy, tastes much stronger than it is. Bit weak in thr mouth though and no lasting joy.
2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 tommann (1444) - Dudley, West Midlands, ENGLAND - JAN 31, 2012
330ml bottle. Pours a very dark amber with a large head. Aroma is grassy, piney hops with some mango. Taste is grassy, boiled sweets, watery finish. Ok effort for a low abv.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Big_Dunc (27) - Glasgow, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 27, 2012
Tasted at BrewDog Glasgow on draught. This beer is incredible for such a low abv%. Great flavour and texture. The dry hopping has made such a difference and proves that brewdog doesn’t need to create just hight abv beers to get an awesome flavour.
2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20 stravale (574) - Scottish Borders, SCOTLAND - JAN 18, 2012
Botle from Brewdog
Reddish brown...frothy off white head..clear..good lacing
Aroma of grassy hops, leaves, hint of resin, slight malt.
Taste - Lots of grassy hops, leaves, hint of burnt notes, uncooked veg, sour, quite acrid.....not nice at all
Palate - Medium carb...very thin body...watery...sharp bitter acidic palate..Finish...bitter hops,,,acidic sour
Overall - A lot of flavour for the 2.8%, but that flavour is not good. Nanny State was a disaster, this one is (slightly) better but it still doesn’t taste good. If you want to do a low abv beer do a dark mild and cut down on the hops!
