Bottle cellared since received for Christmas 2012. Black with thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Huge boozy aroma of dark fruit, spice, molasses, wood, licorice - there’s more there I can’t tease out. Prunes and treacle flavours, sweetish chocolate, some drier roast, a touch of acidity in there too. Plenty of barrel but not too much - the vanilla molasses notes of the rum are there, wee touch of coconut too. Some bitterness still in this, though not really hop character per se. Thick, full, soft carb, oily-ish, long finish. This one’s improved with storage IMO, it’s dried out a touch. Still big on the rum & raisin but less sticky and cloying than it was a year ago. By no means in the very top drawer of impy stouts but still a fine beer.

Pours dark, small cream head. Aroma of rum and biscuit. Thick, alcoholic taste of fig/raisin. Very strong, 15% perhaps too strong for a beer.

330ml bottle from Appellation Wines, Dalry. Dark black pour, thin tan head. Much booze on the aroma, rum and raisin, chocolate too. Taste brings figgy pudding, whiskey, treacle. Sticky, oily, in a good way. Nice.

Wow, that was strong. At 15 percent I shouldn’t be surprised, but god damn that is one hell of a slammer. Takes a few sips to get used to the fact that it is really alcohol heavy in both scent and taste. However it is very rewarding, the rum profile stands out but the classic imperial stout flavors are there too. This is not something I’d go out to try often, but I’m glad I could have it once. A nice wild ride on New Year’s Eve. Try if you can afford it.

Aromas of rum, sweet wood, whiskey, some alcohol, liquorice, roast, marzipan, dark chocolate and hints of vanilla and some liquor. Flavours of spices, malt roast, liquorice, some alcohol that quickly turns into a more rum tone, some wood, yeast, wood roast, toffee, raisin, hay roast, bay leaf and hints of cacoa, brown sugars and coffee beans. Bottle at home. Had one on Christmas Day 2012, this one was cellared for the year. Not sure this is as good as the last one. Based on both: Pours black with very few bubbles. Aroma is dark rum, vanilla, some coffee. Very boozy. Heavy body and a long rum finish. It’s good, but not my favourite Paradox by a long shot.

Had this in storage for a year.Left it out with carrots and biscuits for Santa. Deep dark with a head that fades fairly quickly. Boozey. Raisins. Plums. Sweetness. Rum truffles. Slightly high carbonation. Dark chocolates. More booze. Not too bad as a big rum truffle chocolate experience, which very much suits the night I’m drinking it on. Xmas Paradox...nice !

Bottle sample at a tasting at Vova’s place. Thanks Vova. Dark brown to black-colored, not opaque, with amber hues. Aroma ohas some rum, vanilla, wood, fruity notes and some chocolate. Sweet and boozy flavor with chocolate, some coconut, vanilla, rum, and warming alcohol in the finish. Medium to full-bodied. Good and interesting but a bit too boozy.
