3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle shared at Bruce’s in London - big thanks to Josh. Pours deep brown with a foamy beige head. Nose has lots of tangy dark malts, some dark fruits, hints of plastic. Medium to big sweet flavor, lots of booze-soaked dark fruits, rum, straight booze, slight burnt plastic. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Hot finish, some astringent burnt wood, more boozy fruits, some mild bitter cocoa. A bit heavy-handed.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
330mL bottle at Brewdog Leeds, pours black with a tiny tan head. Aroma brings out shitloads of rum barrels that totally dominate everything. Flavour brings out lots of soy sauce that totally dominate everything, with secondary notes of rum. Man, this is a total soy sauce bomb. Interesting how a rum nose could be totally different on the palate. Decent, but strange.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
7th May 2014
Opaque black - brown beer, short bubbly tan head. Palate is airy and light and slight soft. Modest fine carbonation. Rich tangy dark malts, but not heavy at all. Clear rum and raisan and other tangy dark fruits. Some alcohol spice but it’s not a hot beer. Finishes light leaving a slight warm afterglow. Pretty good.

Drank and noted 8 March 2013, The first thing you smell is RUM! A deep dark stout that then slaps you in the face with oak and rum. This one will be awsome once it ages at least a year and then the rum will mellow out a bit. I just hope I can find this one again in about a years time.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle cellared since received for Christmas 2012. Black with thin tan head that dissipates quickly. Huge boozy aroma of dark fruit, spice, molasses, wood, licorice - there’s more there I can’t tease out. Prunes and treacle flavours, sweetish chocolate, some drier roast, a touch of acidity in there too. Plenty of barrel but not too much - the vanilla molasses notes of the rum are there, wee touch of coconut too. Some bitterness still in this, though not really hop character per se. Thick, full, soft carb, oily-ish, long finish.
This one’s improved with storage IMO, it’s dried out a touch. Still big on the rum & raisin but less sticky and cloying than it was a year ago. By no means in the very top drawer of impy stouts but still a fine beer.
