COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
bottled and keg, special
The infamous Clown King is in town, with his twisted circus of salaciousness. Ready to corrupt the senses, he’s brought together two show-stopping acts in a riot of flavour and aroma. In this two-ring extravaganza, an imperial pale ale and a barley wine come crashing together, and left standing in the sawdust is an American Barley Wine. This freak of nature might be red, but that’s where the similarities with a normal clown’s nose end - on Clown King’s nose you’ll find all the fun of the fair, with caramel and toasted marshmallow aromas, but also raisin and dried fruit. With toasty malt and sweet dark fruit flavours, and a smooth, chewy mouthfeel, you’ll be lulled into a false sense of security, before the Clown King springs up and flings a bucket of spicy, fruity hops right in your face. With such complexity and flavour packed in, like a tiny car full of clowns, you’ll soon be on your feet, joining in with the thunderous applause, when suddenly the Clown King is gone, leaving only a fleeting sense of warmth, and a desire to follow him onto the next town, where the show will begin all over again. - See more at: http://www.brewdog.com/product/clown-king#sthash.mOBuzOIO.dpuf

On tap at Crowbar, march 22nd 2014. Brown orange hued body with a small tanned head. Aroma of brown malt, red fruit, banana, alcohol. Taste is sweet malty with nuts, fruity hops, alcohol. Light bitterness, boozy finish. A bit too noticable alcohol in this one

Tap@Brewdog Bar.

Aroma: dry fruit, red fruit, spice, floral, roasted nuts, butter, caramel, juniper; Appearance: dark clear red, average foamy head; Taste: medium sourness, medium sweetness, slight bitterness; Palate: oily texture, full body, soft carbonation, dry slightly astringent finish Pretty boozy at start, then some hoppy background shows through. Strangely close to a pumped-up Doppelbock yet not easily classifiable.

Tap at CBC 2014. Brownish in the glass, some red. Heavy malty, light alcoholic aroma. Starts intense malty, quite fiery alcoholic. More and more dry. Finish warming-malty, fine roasty. Well balanced, warming.

Poured from a 330 ml bottle. Dark brownish red color with a little head. The carbonation makes the beer look lively. Beautiful smell of caramel and molasses maybe. First sip takes your tongue with a sweet surprise. The carbonation keeps it lively which quickly metls the liquid away and spreads and coats the entire mouth. The sweetness slowly fades and subtler notes become apparent. I notice a minor tingling on the tongue with slight bitter taste. I quite enjoyed that.

Poured from 330mL bottle. Clear, light amber with dissipating beige head. Aroma of caramel, molasses, dried fruit, fig, raisin. Taste same, focusing on the caramel and molasses with a hit of alcohol, hops are extremely feint near the end. Finish is a little quick.
