COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
bottled and keg, special
The infamous Clown King is in town, with his twisted circus of salaciousness. Ready to corrupt the senses, he’s brought together two show-stopping acts in a riot of flavour and aroma. In this two-ring extravaganza, an imperial pale ale and a barley wine come crashing together, and left standing in the sawdust is an American Barley Wine. This freak of nature might be red, but that’s where the similarities with a normal clown’s nose end - on Clown King’s nose you’ll find all the fun of the fair, with caramel and toasted marshmallow aromas, but also raisin and dried fruit. With toasty malt and sweet dark fruit flavours, and a smooth, chewy mouthfeel, you’ll be lulled into a false sense of security, before the Clown King springs up and flings a bucket of spicy, fruity hops right in your face. With such complexity and flavour packed in, like a tiny car full of clowns, you’ll soon be on your feet, joining in with the thunderous applause, when suddenly the Clown King is gone, leaving only a fleeting sense of warmth, and a desire to follow him onto the next town, where the show will begin all over again. - See more at: http://www.brewdog.com/product/clown-king#sthash.mOBuzOIO.dpuf

Pours red, minimal head that dissipates quickly, aroma of caramel, some resinous hops. Full bodied, oily feel, soft carbonation, Taste is more caramel, with some raisins and berries. Good strong bitterness and the required heavy cloying sweetness that comes with a Barley Wine. The reviews so far seem a little harsh, as a 12% US style Barley Wine it ticks a lot of boxes for me. Its not the best Barley wine I’ve ever had, and It may not be the most balanced beer, but it doesn’t need to be! An interesting brew, would recommend to those wanting some kick from their beer.

Bottle. Pours a murky orange brown beer with a nice off white head on top. Aroma is malty, caramel, sugary and rather boozy. Also some woody notes in there of some sort. Flavor is fairly bitter, more hoppy than malty. The alcohol is noticeable, but not too overly sweet. Some herbal notes in the background. Softly carbonated, fairly easy drinking. Very nice.

UPDATED: JUN 29, 2016 Bottle shared at home. Hazy dark amber colour, small white lacing. Nose is strong dried fruits. Taste is medium sweetness, low bitterness. Rasinins and other dried fruits. The only downside is the strong alcolic feeling. Complex and lovely.

Bottiglia, fermento cipro 08/06/2016. All’apparenza si presenta come una tunica di frate con venature da pelo di volpe. Note di malto, caramello, liquirizia, gorgonzola, noce, mandorla, prugna, lampone e qualche lieve nota di luppolo. In bocca si presenta setosa, caramello, liquirizia, frutta sotto spirito ed una possente nota alcolica alla bocca dello stomaco. Molto particolare.

Batch 247, Best before 15/10/18 aperta il 15/03/16.

Bottle - Clear amber colour wit reddish tint, large creamy tan head, good retention. Heavy malty aromas with a lot of caramel, dried plum, raisins and some resinous hops. Taste is very complex, caramel, raisins, grapes, dates, dried fruits. Sweet taste balanced with gentle hop bitterness. A bit boozy, but its ok. Full body, soft carbonation, chewy texture, sweet and smooth finish. A very complex beer with sensible alcohol warmth.

Percebe-se um pouco do alcool no aroma e no sabor, mas está bem inserido. Doce predominante sobressaindo muito sobre o amargor. Muito saborosa e com baixa drinkabilidade. Uma das melhores barley wine que já provei.
