COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
keg/ bottle 2012 Prototypes release.
A 10% decadent and indulgent Imperial Russian Stout. Brewed with a copious amount of dark malts, infused with coffee beans during the boil and after fermentation and aged on cacao nibs, vanilla pods and toasted oak chips. This opulent whirl of chocolate, coffee, dark malts and hops even rivals the most colourful of imperial Faberge eggs. Originally created to celebrate the Russian Royal Family, this is a fitting tribute with which to toast your own empire.

Pours a thick dark brown with a dark brown foam. At first itís like a good RIS. Then it warms. Wow! Eventually itís like coffee mixed with baking cocoa and a little caramel . Pretty intense. Love it!

Bottle. Jet brown! Head is a red brown like autumn, but fades rather quickly. Nose is rich - chocolate, cream, more chocolate, the faintest hint of whisky, vanilla, coffee. Taste is thick with an instant whoosh of chocolate liquier, chocolate powder and creamy whisky. Theres a little bit of chocolate heat in the nostrils, letting you know this isnít a beer to be messed with. Sip. Enjoy. Savour.

Bottle from Mi Orge Mi Houblon, Arlon, Belgium!
Pours deep black with a nice espresso head. Aroma is rich malty, roasty with a huge amount of chocolate and licorice. Taste is strong malty, slight hints of smoke, coffee and lots of sweet chocolate. Finish is long lasting malty-roasty, chocolatey sweet and, with some burnt notes.

How often do you get to enjoy three of lifeís great pleasures at once? And Mrs H says I canít do more than one thing at a time... Look, Iím multi-tasking! Appearance: Itís a stout, so the colour is a given. Might be imagination or just bad light in here, but the head seemed to have a plummy tinge, like whipped grape juice. Aroma: dark chocolate, vanilla bean, milk - quite restrained for the style, even at room temp. Comes to life in the mouth, where it is thick and sludgy, sweet and bitter. Luxurious mouthfeel even for an imperial - almost milkshake-like. Sweet, treacley chocolate with some terrific espresso bitterness. Roasted malts dominate the finish. A rich treat in small quantities - two bottles of this would be too rich for my ascetic monk-like constitution. (330ml bottle from Leura Cellars. BB 10/4/14)

Bottle poured into a brandy snifter. The beer looks like sludge coming out of the bottle, like used motor oil. Thick head of dark brown foam. The aroma is burnt and ashy, with a dark sweetness lingering in the background. The taste has mostly coffee and dark chocolate bitterness. Dry and bitter in the finish. Thick mouthfeel and low carbonation. Not bad, but too bitter for my tastes.

Piana: Drobnoziarnista, niska, drobnoziarnista, stopniowo opada, lecz i tak dłogo się utrzymuje jak na taki woltaż.. Barwa: Czarna, smolista. Przy nalewaniu na prawdę wygląda jak smoła. Aromat: lekki alkohol i spalenizna, pieprz, kakao, czekolada. Smak: Palone słody, gorzka czekolada, przyprawy, kawa. Intensywna goryczka o palonym charakterze utrzymuję się bardzo długo, lecz jest przyjemna. Piwo dość gęste i bardzo treściwe. Co ciekawe nie czuć słodyczy. Wszystko zgrabnie przykrywają kawowe i palone nuty. Polecam!

Back with Z, pours a very thick black color with no head. Nose is heavy malt, chocolate and burnt coffee with mocha as well. Taste is deep malt, mocha , coffee and oak. A bit of alcohol breaks through as well, very heavy , smooth and velvety on the palate. Finishes on all the above complex tasting notes, with a moderately long oaky finish. An excellent imperial stout. Quaff Score 8 / 10
