A 10% decadent and indulgent Imperial Russian Stout. Brewed with a copious amount of dark malts, infused with coffee beans during the boil and after fermentation and aged on cacao nibs, vanilla pods and toasted oak chips. This opulent whirl of chocolate, coffee, dark malts and hops even rivals the most colourful of imperial Faberge eggs. Originally created to celebrate the Russian Royal Family, this is a fitting tribute with which to toast your own empire.

Draught @ Kaisla. Pitch black with a brown head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, chocolate and roasted malt. Very roasted flavour with coffee, chocolate, vanilla and bitter hops. Roasted, bitter finish. A great Imperial Stout.

330ml bottle enjoyed @ home. Pours pitch black with a mocca brown head. Aroma is delicious coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and liquorice. Flavour is medium sweet and medium bitter. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation. Finish is long, roasted and bittersweet -not as well-balanced as in the beginning.

En del alkohol i både doft och smak, men det samsas med kaffe, mörk choklad, vanilj, rostad malt. En helt OK öl men lite för spritig för mig. @SBWF2015 ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very decent imperial stout, but calling it "Cocoa Psycho" is simply just a joke and yet another exaggeration from Brewdog. It seems like this brewery just never really pulls it off. But, as said, this is a very decent imperial stout. Pitch black, nice, longlasting roasted head. Aroma: some chocolate, coffee, roasted notes, soap. Taste: A bit of cakey choclotate, bitter coffee, burnt malt.

33cl bottle from Systembolaget. No brew or bottled date. Best before 2019-01-13. Batch 10. It poured a pitch black colour with a very dark brown head.Aroma is alcohol, dark coffee, cocoa, vanilla and whisky-infused oak. Flavour is rich, complex and smooth. Alcohol and coffee at first, but soon notes of liqorice, oak, roasted malts, dark chocolate and vanilla appear. Some spicy chili notes although that could just be the oak. Long and lingering aftertaste.

Black with a light chocolate head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted grains, vanilla, oak, coffee. Medium-full bodied, slick mouthfeel, sweet on the palate balanced with a little roasty bitterness. Taste is chocolate, roasted almonds, vanilla, toffee, oak.

At BrewDog’s new pub in Brussels - where this is sold at an unreasonably expensive price. Thin but stable, creamy, lightly lacing, beige head residing over a completely opaque black beer. Wonderful RIS aroma of bitter chocolate, iron shavings (feeling quite ’natural’ in this case), coffee beans, bayleaf, liquorice, whisky, vanilla, peat, candied plums, roasted chestnuts and some glue-like phenols. Candied figs and raisins in the onset but not overly sweet, counterbalanced with a subtle, ’deaf’ sourishness, quite a fair amount of carbonation for the style (perhaps even slightly overcarbonated), very thick and oily, fat mouthfeel, intensely nutty and toasted evolving into an abyss of deep, bitter chocolate and coffeeish roastedness but nevertheless remaining very ’rounded’ and smooth; finish is very roastedly malty, bittersweet and complex, with a deep but ’active’ peppery hop bitterness, drying, along with a hint of drying wood and warming, gin-like alcohol flirting with astringency, but engulfed by big, dark maltiness which lingers for a long time. An ambitious, expensive, luxurious imperial stout indeed, not sure if it is worth its money, but it surely shows BrewDog’s innovative and assertive character. Glad I finally tasted this modern time classic.

a bit of a beast...good but very in your face dark chocolate, cocoa and coffee. Bitterness tempers the sweet, though. Nice finish.
