A 10% decadent and indulgent Imperial Russian Stout. Brewed with a copious amount of dark malts, infused with coffee beans during the boil and after fermentation and aged on cacao nibs, vanilla pods and toasted oak chips. This opulent whirl of chocolate, coffee, dark malts and hops even rivals the most colourful of imperial Faberge eggs. Originally created to celebrate the Russian Royal Family, this is a fitting tribute with which to toast your own empire.

Draught @ Kaisla. Pitch black with a brown head. Aroma of coffee, cocoa, chocolate and roasted malt. Very roasted flavour with coffee, chocolate, vanilla and bitter hops. Roasted, bitter finish. A great Imperial Stout.

Liquid is black as night, with small, brown head. Aroma of peat and chocolate, quite weak. Heavy body, little bit carbonation. Taste is bitter, chocolate, stout.

Opaque black color with no visible activity, but a nice slow foam construction. Thick creamy brown sparkling 4 finger head, lasting around 15 minutes, with poor lacing. Flavors of rotten dark fruits, yeast, burnt malts, coffee, peppers, cocoa, and herbal spices. Chalky medium body with prickly carbonation. Vinous sweetness with sour bitterness. Super strong and long astringent finish, ending with a tongue burning leathery coffee feel, with a little bit of cocoa. Overall this is a good quality bold Russian stout, but I personally find it overly strong and unbalanced. Fully flavored, very rich and tasty, with a killer peppery mouth feel. Highly vinous and alcoholic. A very sour smell, almost foul. Stale, hard to drink, yet super warming. Hardcore only. You can easily serve this as an appetizer, still quite complex and unique.

Bottle at home. Pours darker than black with large copper head. Aroma is cocoa, booze, coffee and a bit of caramel. Taste is subtle chocolate, roasted malts and coffee. Long finish. Thick mouth-feel but not unpleasant. Kind of short on words but this was a baller of a imperial Russian.

Aspetto: nero impenetrabile schiuma marrone scuro, abbondante, fine e persistente. Aroma: intenso, con sentori soprattutto di cacao, caffè e liquorosi. Gusto: semplicemente spettacolare, sentori come al naso con aggiunta abbondante di liquirizia. Carbonizzazione media, corpo decisamente strutturato. Veramente una grandissima birra! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

17/20 Fairly sensational imperial stout. Mildly carbonated initially tastes like really strong coffee but flavours really open up, with a complex mix of malts, caramel and chocolate. Really strong 10%. One to savour ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330ml bottle from Doghouse. Thick, inky, viscous black with a lively dark brown head. Bitter, sweet espresso aroma. Taste is very bitter, coffee, alcohol, not much chocolate or vanilla. Tasty

Bottle. 10.0%. Best before 11.09.20. Pours black with a diminishing dark tan/brown head. Bit of lacing. Sweetish, roasted aroma with a fruity note and a creamy overtone. Slightly tart. Light cocoa, barbecue notes as it warms, as well as a hint of wood. Flavour is roasted, with a light barbecue note. Sweetish note as well. A bit vinous. Light spicy note as it warms. Bitter, slightly tart finish with an alcohol burn; though very present, the alcohol is still fairly well—balanced, considering how high the percentage is. Lingering mild bitterness along with hints of hops, grass and wood. Soft palate, almost velvety. Overall pretty good and well-made, but lacks that last complexity to make it outstanding, as the nuances drowns a bit. 06.08.16.
