COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
keg/ bottle 2012 Prototypes release.
A 10% decadent and indulgent Imperial Russian Stout. Brewed with a copious amount of dark malts, infused with coffee beans during the boil and after fermentation and aged on cacao nibs, vanilla pods and toasted oak chips. This opulent whirl of chocolate, coffee, dark malts and hops even rivals the most colourful of imperial Faberge eggs. Originally created to celebrate the Russian Royal Family, this is a fitting tribute with which to toast your own empire.

When I pored this one it came out motor oil black with a very very dark tan small head. The aroma is coffee and candy sugar. The flavor is bitter dark chocolate and bitter finish. It flows across the palate smooth with a slight tingle of carbonation. Overall a bit too bitter for my taste.

Pours totally black with a black head. Aroma is malt, roastiness, chocolate, coffee and some woody notes. Taste is high sweet leading to a roasty finish. Brilliant!

Bottle from Systembolaget. Black beer with a beige head. Sweetish aroma has roasted malts, vanilla, cocoa and dark chocolate. Flavour is roasted malts, salty licorice with some cocoa and dark chocolate. Decent bitterness in the end. Very nice smooth mouthfeel and a really classy imp overall.

Czarne jak cholera, bez jakichkolwiek prześwitów. Piana piękna, brązowa, gęsta i obfita. Aromat kawy i czekolady z dodatkiem czegoś słodkiego, jakby lukrecja.

Bottle from Blacklick Wine & Spirits. Black, thick, oily pour with a thick light brown head. Malty nose with notes of dark fruit, licorice, chocolate, roast, coffee and light vanilla. Vanilla and chocolate flavor with some maltiness before a roasty coffee finish. Very nicely done.

Half from Brew Dog bar, sheffield. Opaque Black beer with dark tan head. Aroma is mostly cocoa, but with coffee and liquorice too. Taste is espresso bitterness and some dark chocolate bitter/sweetness. prickly carbonation, thick body with lots of oil. Good, but couldn’t drink more than one.

Bottle from brewdog brewery Ellon. Pours a jet black with a dark brown head which fades quite quickly. Not much on the aroma side of things which was disappointing. The taste had dark chocolate, deep coffee and burnt bread with some raisin to finish. Hides the % well.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2014 Served on tap at Brewdog Birmingham. Pours a pitch black colour with a lovely dark beige head which lasts well into the drink. Aroma is smooth chocolate with dark fruity notes but of course overpowered with burnt malt. Mouthfeel is perfectly smooth and viscous - enhancing the already rich aroma and taste profile. Definitely one I will try again.
