4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
26th November 2012
Brewdog Shoreditch. Slightly oily looking black - brown beer. Rich brown head of a good size. Smooth palate, super smooth with very fine carbonation. Light and airy. All right then - this is a good one! Smooth dark chocolate, creamy, followed by a touch of sweet milk chocolate. Subtle dark fruits on the back of the tongue and then the coffee comes forward. The coffee is rich but mellow and seamlessly integrated. Finishes light and airy with more chocolate cream and a trace of orange hop. A belter! So good I had another!

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Keg at BrewDog Camden, London. Pours black with a staunch, brown cream head. Lots of espresso and dark chocolate in the nose, hints of dark fruits, raisins. Big sweet flavor but not at all cloying. Deep and rich, lots of chocolate cake, espresso, gooey fudge. Yeah, wow, this is delicious. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming finish with more chocolate cake, brownies, dark bread, earth, roasted malts, further espresso. Incredible balance. There’s just enough charred wood and earthy bitterness in here to offset the strong chocolate character. Superb.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Keg, BrewDog Brum, 12/12/12. Tar levelled with a collar the colour of..who knows what? It collapses fast- that’s keg for you. As dark a head as I’ve ever seen on a beer. Bonfire, chipotle, burnt apple aroma. Slick, roasted, fruitier but less complex than Mikkeller; lingers like burnt pepper and aubergine shaved with Lindt. Sprinkles of soy. Fine, mellow, complicated sipper true to the essence of stoutiness: roast and drinkability. Slightly immense.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draugh @ Brewdog Bar, Camden as "Choc+coffee Stout"
Aroma has cocoa, vanilla and some mocha. Flavour has mocha, licorice, some cocoa and hints of vanila. Hoppy finish with lingering hops. Rich and nice, but perhaps too stuffy, sticky or sweet. Go figure.
