sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, - AUG 16, 2009
(Bottled 9/11/2008) Very dark brown with a smallish, bubbly, mostly fading but a bit lacy, beige head. Mild aroma of licorice, coffee, roasted but not burned malt, some oatmeal sourness. Roasted coffee more evident in the flavor, with roasted, slightly sweet malt, and a touch of ashy burnedness in the dryish finish. Medium to full body, smooth palate with soft carbonation. Needs to warm up a bit to open up. After that, it is a lot like Slottskällans IS, yet with something missing. Very smooth, clean and drinkable, but lacks in overall depth and complexity - as well as in aroma.

Clear dark red brown beer. Semi soft palate. Moderate carbonation. Immediate hop attack! Well balanced by even malt and a fairly light touch of coffee. Finish is neutral and not at all dry. Well balanced coffee beer. Great but not spectacular.

diabel (1537) - Aarschot, BELGIUM - NOV 24, 2011
Deep black clear body. Creamy brown head with an excellent lace. Complex, yet subtle arome of strong malts, dark fruit, hops, smoke. Moderately bitter, moderately sweet flavour. Bit sticky/dry flavour. Very nice, not great.

Koelschtrinker (7038) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - NOV 22, 2011
Cremig röstiger Antrunk mit Aromen von Tannennadeln. Schokoladig herb, etwas rauchig. Auch eine deutliche Hopfennote ist vorhanden, die konstant hinter dem Malz liegt. Harmonisch aber recht eigen. 6/12/11/12/7/12

Denmark, Aug-Sept 2009. Bottle from Fonefan. Dark brown to lamost black with a reddish hue, tiny head. Very itnense roasted malt aroma with lots of coffee. The roasted malts and coffee beans domiante the taste as well, I can sense a not of pines fro mthe hops. Rather thin bodied.

lusikka (2533) - Tampere, FINLAND - APR 23, 2011
330 ml bottle @ Pannuhuone, Kuopio. Bottled 09/11/2008.
Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a small foamy head which fades quickly. Aroma of very strong wood and mild hops. Mild flavour of roasted malts, wood, black coffee and tobacco. Medium bodied with a thin mouthfeel and a roasted coffee finish with some hops. Unbalanced, probably because of the aging.

tiong (1301) - Espoo, FINLAND - APR 22, 2011
330ml bottle @ Pannuhuone, Kuopio

Pours black with a bubbly white head. Aroma is oaky and roasty. Taste is very dry with hints of vanilla, oak and coffee. Quite unbalanced.

Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - APR 6, 2011
Bottle from the Utobeer. It pours very dark brown with a thin tan head and low carbonation. The nose is rich-roast coffee, burnt sugar, wood, liquorice and dark chocolate. The taste is coffee, wood, liquorice, toast, tobacco, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar and well-hidden alcohol, with a long bitter-roasty finish. It is perhaps a little on the thin side for this style, but mighty enjoyable nonetheless.

rosenbergh (3486) - Helsinki, FINLAND - APR 3, 2011
330 ml bottle. Finland.
Dark brown colour with tiny off-white head. Ash, dry roasted malt and coffee in aroma. Dry flavour is quite the same as aroma. Coffee, roasted malt and ash. The coffee flavour is not so aggressive as I thought.

Bottle thanks to the Wofl. Basically a black pour with very small dark tan coloured head. Aromas are pretty much as expected. Espresso coffee roasted malt, some lactose sweetness and a hint of acidity. Flavours are similar with lots of bitterness from the grain and espresso. Decent sweetness to hold it all together. Medium mouthfeel.

Bottled. A black beer with a tiny grey puddle of head. There’s more coffee in this beer than I’m comfortable with, hence I found it a bit of a struggle. Some sour mash amongst the coffee in the nose and fruity bitterness also in the mouth. Definite qualities but I don’t drink coffee ergo...
