4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: APR 29, 2015 Anniversary beer, basically their AB04 but with added vanilla and, whatever it is, naga chilli. Yellowish beige head, thin due to the extreme alcohol strength, colour near black, just a bit of chestnut glow under bright light. Very dense, powerful and exciting aroma revealing all kinds of cacao powder, bitter chocolate, black coffee, whisky, cider, cinnamon, pear syrup, peat, tobacco, vanilla, brown sugar and even that chilli. Taste begins assertively with a mouth-filling toasted bitterness, thick oily and powdery mouthfeel weighing heavy on the tongue, profound chocolatey maltiness, lots of spicy tones reminiscent of sweet tobacco, pepper and again that chilli, lots of dark fruits, finishing with a great deal of leafy hop bitterness, very very long, accompanied by an equally long warming alcohol reminiscent of coffee liqueur and cognac. Brewdog has flabbergastered me more than once but this is so far the most impressive thing I ever tasted from them - I would even go as far to say that this is one of the best beers I ever had.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2014-07-05. Black body with a nice creamy brown head that fades. 4+ Aroma is moderately roasty, dark chocolate, mild alcohol. Flavour is rich, sweet dark malt core, bitter finish has light roast and warming alcohol, cocoa. Whiskey notes? Alcohol is present on the palate and warming the throat but is surprisingly restrained. Very smooth full bodied palate, soft carbonation is possibly a touch light? On tap as Dog C at BrewDog, Aberdeen

4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
33cl bottle. Bottled 2012-04-01. Pitch black colour with a very small light brown head. Aroma is laden with massive notes of coffee but also notes of cocoa and chilli. Overtones of sweet malts and brown sugar. Flavour is as massive as the aroma. Lots and lots of coffee with chilli and liqorice. A very decent amount of alcohol as well. A long lingering aftertaste.

3.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
On tap at glasgow brewdog. Pours a muddy black/brown color. Tan mostly lasting head. As thick as oil in the glass. It has a nose of dark fruits and molasses with a touch of dark chocolate/coffee. Mouthfeel is syrupy and it sticks to your throat going down. Taste is coffee and molases and dark chocolate. No chilli though...All in all I am glad I got it.

Draught at BrewDog Shepherd’s Bush. Pours a thick black, with a thin tan head. Massive aroma of coal, treacle, booze soaked cherries and slight smoke. Full, syrupy mouth feel. Complex flavours of black cherry, dark fruit, liquorice and roasted malt. Finish is lovely, balanced whisky, dark rum, peat, molasses and dates. Smashing beer.

Draft at BrewDog Sheperd’s Bush (under the name Dog B). Poured black with a thin tan head. Aroma of Xmas pudding, toffee and slight booze. Full syrupy mouth feel. Flavours are incredibly full with molasses, maple, dried fruit and chewy malt. Palate is equally gratifying. Notes of port, slight whiskey, dry grains and fruit cake. Very tasty, but I’m surprised to find that Dog B is the same as Dog A...
