Aug 2013 - Room temp bottle of the original íDog Aí, bottled Apr 12. From Brewdog online shop. Black of course. Just a beige ring of head. Smell - some coffee, maybe a little vegetable, some yeast. Body is medium and carbonation is initially quite high (softens fairly quickly). Taste has some soy, a little sharp. Iím finding it hard to pick up vanilla. However, there is some clear (but mild) coffee and chili in the aftertaste. Some chocolate sweetness. Acidic and rough on the stomach initially. Needs at least half an hour in the air and it then calms down a bit. Alcohol is not really noticeable at over 15%. This has the makings of a great beer - the coffee flavours are really nice when they pop out of the taste. Itís let down a lot by its sharpness, which makes me reluctant to take another sip. (3.7).

Dec 2013 - Room temp bottle of íDog Bí bottled Apr 2013. Pours black, can force a head which lasted all of twenty seconds. Smell is toned down wet dog, liquorice. Body is medium. Taste - sweet, liquoricey, molasses, plastic, alcohol present but itís a smooth beer. I have to really search for coffee and vanilla flavours. A slightly different impression to the Dog A. (3.7).

July 2014 - Keg at Brewdog as íDog Cí. Black, small white head. Aroma - yeasty coffee. Body - medium. Taste - tangy coffee liquer, chili is more prominent than in previous versions, slightly vegetal and boozy. Very slow sipper. (3.9)

Beautiful thick sludgy motor oil fudge pour, nice finger of dark chocolate head, that sits for a minute then fades into the dark hole of this stuff. Aroma is coffee, some spice, some sweetness, very nice. Taste brown sugar, vanilla, some coffee. Finishes with some burnt ash and spice. Incredibly drinkable for such a big beer. There is some lingering warmth from the booze but the abv does not overpower,no harshness to speak of. All the flavours of this seem to blend together effortlessly. Great stout.

33cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours opaque black with a lovely crema head which mostly disappears in the first two minutes. The weight of this beer in the glass is noticeable with the lace clinging to the side somewhat. The nose has dark chocolate, a hint of the pimento and an earthy maltiness. The taste is very much dark chocolate with a slow burning chilli hit and a long dark chocolate finish which goes into liquorice. The palate is huge in body, with a creamy smooth texture and a long creamy and fairly balanced finish. The alcohol is obvious but relative to the strength itís still relatively subtle. Overall, for some reason I remember AB:04 as being better than this, like one of the best beers Iíve ever had (and before my Ratebeer days) but this really does still hit the mark.

Dog B for me. This is everything a stout should be. Malty and sweet with lashings of cocoa and chili. Very punchy in terms of alcohol but remarkably smooth and drinkable.

Pitch black color. Quickly disappaiting head, huge dark chocolate, cayenne pepper spicy nose with vanilla, dark fruit and molasses. Wow. Amazing nose that I could make love to. The mouth is superbly rich with tons of pepper, dark chocolate, dark fruit, extremely rich. Fairly sweet. But the spicy and sweetness balance out each other. Super complex and I am always a sucker for spicy imperial stouts and this is no exception. One of the spiciest Iíve ever tried.

Pour black like an oil slick! Tingles sweet to start with then turns into a bitter, burnt after taste. Cannot really taste the chilli but maybe that's the tingling feeling! Rated by BrewTom

UPDATED: AUG 2, 2013 Backlog: black with small brown head. Awesome and complex Aroma of spices, vanilla, malt, and some coffee. Full oily and wine like mouthfeel with small carbonation. Aftertaste is sweet with some vanilla and pepper notes. Overall: near perfect. Awsome balance. Alcohol well hidden. Miss some unique features to really separate it from the rest.

Shared with Northropfrye at BrewDog Edinburgh. Dark body, not much head. Lots of great bourbon aroma and flavour. A really good imperial stout. I loved it.

Keg @ BrewDog Glasgow. Almost black, not much head. Spicy tar malt aroma. Sickly sweet tarry vanilla malt flavour. Strong sweet alcohol flavour. Ok but not my sort of beer.
