3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
330 ml bottle from Premier Wine and Spirits. Pours a night black colour with small rich brown head. Aroma is rich coffee, cocoa and licorice; chili is there too but subtle enough relatively to not overpower. Flavour is very rich with lots of coffee and dark/semi-sweet chocolate, some smoke, licorice and chili pepper. Alcohol is there but without any real burn. Full body. Mellow carbonation. Silky mouthfeel. Very big beer.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
0,33 bottle as Dog B. Colour is black, no head. In aroma liquorice, chili, coffee and spices. Tastes a little bit heavy and sweet. Was expecting much more from this. Decent beer for long winter nights, but not for summertime.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle of Dog B from Brewdog AGM 2013, shared at home. Pours jet black, but flat. No head. Fresh chilli peppers on the nose, liquorice, stone fruit. Taste of burnt sugar sweetness, then chilli burn. This just isn’t doing it for me, which is disappointing as I remember Dog A from the 2012 AGM being amazing.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Appearance: Ink black with no head, just a tan ring around the glass.
Aroma: Toffee, treacle, liquorice, prune, vinous, fruit cake, grassy and floral. The chilli also adds to the aroma with its notes coming through.
Taste: Medium sweetness, low/medium bitterness and low sourness. The palate is dominated by liquorice, treacle and waves of chilli.
Palate: Thin texture, low/medium body and mouthfeel, no/low carbonation, astringent and has a lingering finish of sweetness, treacle and chilli spice.
Comments: Very good, slight glass ring lace. This was the 5th anniversary edition.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle (33cl), BB 1.4.2012, consumed 31.8.2013. Pitch black colour. Half-inch dark beige head that reduces fairly quickly to a stable ring. Sugary/sticky swirl with transient spot lacing. Adorable, complex, sweet malty aroma with coffee, cocoa, oak, vanilla, hint of chili. Sweet, oily mouthfeel with some chili heat that also gives a slightly sparkling/prickly sensation. Taste has a wonderful balance between vanilla-malty sweetness, woody bitterness and soy sauce saltiness.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle of Dog B. This has more of a capsicum annuum aroma than the capsicum chinense I remember from drinking Dog A earlier (even though I think these have the same chili). Mouthfeel is smooth. Flavor has loads of cocoa with additional coffee and the chili obviously. Aftertaste has dark chocolate and a small, nice bite of chili. Good stuff, like the edge from the chili.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Kaatuu lasiin pikimustana. Muodostaa vain hieman beigeä vaahtoa. Tuoksu on huumaavan lakritsinen. Sen lisäksi tuoksussa on kahvia, paahtunutta mallasta ja ripaus chiliä. Maku on jälleen kerran voimakkaan lakritsinen. Lisäksi maussa on paahtunutta mallasta, kahvia, vaniljaa ja taas ripaus chiliä. Tämän oluen juominen on kuin mielenkiintoisesti maustettua lakritsia söisi. Suutuntuma on öljyinen ja paksu. Todellista herkkua.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 1, 2013
Aug 2013 - Room temp bottle of the original ’Dog A’, bottled Apr 12. From Brewdog online shop. Black of course. Just a beige ring of head. Smell - some coffee, maybe a little vegetable, some yeast. Body is medium and carbonation is initially quite high (softens fairly quickly). Taste has some soy, a little sharp. I’m finding it hard to pick up vanilla. However, there is some clear (but mild) coffee and chili in the aftertaste. Some chocolate sweetness. Acidic and rough on the stomach initially. Needs at least half an hour in the air and it then calms down a bit. Alcohol is not really noticeable at over 15%. This has the makings of a great beer - the coffee flavours are really nice when they pop out of the taste. It’s let down a lot by its sharpness, which makes me reluctant to take another sip. (3.7).
Dec 2013 - Room temp bottle of ’Dog B’ bottled Apr 2013. Pours black, can force a head which lasted all of twenty seconds. Smell is toned down wet dog, liquorice. Body is medium. Taste - sweet, liquoricey, molasses, plastic, alcohol present but it’s a smooth beer. I have to really search for coffee and vanilla flavours. A slightly different impression to the Dog A. (3.7 again).

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Beautiful thick sludgy motor oil fudge pour, nice finger of dark chocolate head, that sits for a minute then fades into the dark hole of this stuff. Aroma is coffee, some spice, some sweetness, very nice. Taste brown sugar, vanilla, some coffee. Finishes with some burnt ash and spice. Incredibly drinkable for such a big beer. There is some lingering warmth from the booze but the abv does not overpower,no harshness to speak of. All the flavours of this seem to blend together effortlessly. Great stout.
