Bottle from Vinmonopolet Storo enjoyed at home
Pours jet black with a brown head. Smells of roasted malts, coffee, some vanilla. Taste is heavy sweet, roast and toast, coffee, hints of chili, just that little nice sting there. Almost heavy bitter finish, some hops. A very nice imperial stout. A thick sticky malty soup with some chili. A wonderful beer; maybe a bit heavy on the alcohol but this is a real treat! More of this please

BrewDog B bottle. Jet black pour with a thin espresso head that fades quick. Aroma is full of dark chocolate. Huge mouth. Taste is full of dark chocolate and a little roasted barley. Hints of chili peppers. A little vanilla and lots of booze. Very complex. No lace. As this warms up, the coffee really rears its head, and it is good. The chili pepper leaves a slight burn on your lips.

Pitch black beer with not much head to speak of. Aroma has cocoa, chili, licorice, chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is very sweet. There is syrup, caramel malts, chocolate, milk coffee / vanilla and ending with a chili burn. Of course the body is really bold and full, carbonation is at minimum. Really sweet high abv stout.

[6453-20140705] Tap. Mild toasted wood malt aroma. Black tar body with a medium-lasting foamy brown head. Tarred charcoal malt flavour. Full body is fairly boozy and thick. Good. (7/3/8/4/16) 3.8

330ml bottle at home. Black color with nice brown head. Aroma is roasted malty, chocolate, cocoa, coffee, dark fruits, raisins, light vanilla and alcohol. Taste is sweet and bitter, like the aroma, sweet chocolate, bitter dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruits at the finish, the alcohol is very well hidden. Medium to full, silky almost creamy body with soft carbonation, sweet and bitter chocolate and coffee aftertaste.

Negro opaco y espuma beige oscura. Excelente.

330 ml bottle as Dog C
Totally black beer with little brown head. Aroma has alcohol, cocoa, coffee, vanilla and menthol. Flavor has salmiakki, smoke, roasted malts and liqueur. Palate is very thick and smooth. Finish has medium bitterness with alcohol, salmiakki, liqueuer and chili burn. I would like this better without the chili. Something very harsh about this, I think it’s the added spices. Still, nice to sip slowly.

Bottle 0,33l. Pours a black colour with a deep tan head. Aroma is subtle with brandy, alcohol, dark chocolate, espresso, chilli spice and molasses. Taste of toffee backbone, supporting the spicy hop flavour, alcohol and chilli heat. The malt bill adds further spice from the rye, and a smooth refined mouthfeel from the wheat and oats. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle (gift, likely from the BD online shop) drunk at home. Black with the tiniest sliver of light coming through. No head and precious little visible carbonation. Vanilla, chocolate, hazelnut, burnt toast, liquorice, woodsmoke, and alcohol. Lots and lots and lots of alcohol in the aroma. Taste is wonderful but almost too alcoholic: a bitter astringent chilli hit abated by soothing warm bittersweet chocolate. Long bittersweet finish. Intense, complex and moreish.

Vinmonopolet.

Overall: Chocolate, sweet dried fruits, brown sugar, hot peppers. Very potent.
Note: On-tap at BrewDog Stockholm. Reviewed 2014-11-11.
Earlier Rating: 10/22/2012 Total Score: 4.2
Aroma: Dark intense coffee, chili pepper, burnt brown bread, vanilla fudge, brown sugar and figs and Marzipan.
Appearance: A black and brown beer, a brown head, little lacing and surprisingly few curtains.
Taste: Starting sweet, sugar, bread, vanilla, dried fruits, then a warm spicy feeling, chili and espresso, then bitter cocoa beans.
Palate: Medium carbonation, sticky and oily, a big body and an almost coarse dry finish.
Overall: Very much crammed into this one. Must be enjoyed slowly and carefully.
Note: Bottle 330 ml. Reviewed 2012-10-22.
