COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with ten different types of malt, and blended together with Scottish heather honey, it is a pantheon to the gods of intricacy and nuance; a beer that celebrates a confluence of ideas. History is written by the victors, and Dogma is Scotch Ale triumphant; evolved.
Complex, indulgent and encapsulating, Dogma gives more than a cursory nod to history, to make you ponder the very nature of beer itself.

Strong like a honeyed whisky. Interesting malty aroma. Dark colour. Long on taste and alcohol flavour.

330 ml bottle bought at Gorgeous Wine & Cigar in Yuen Long.

Looks: Clear, deep blackish brown colour; Less than one-quarter finger head with soapy light beige foam which fades in 15 seconds; Pretty good sticky lacing and near zero carbonation.

Aroma: Quite fragrant roasted dark malt, with strong toffee, caramel, creamed coffee, brown sugar, very light milk powder, yeast and faint grass.

Taste: Close to medium sweet dark malt, with very strong roastyness, very light smoke, soot, faint hint of Whiskey, caramel, light toffee, burnt toast, molasses, moderate coffee, hints of soy sauce, lime, quite strong bitter hops and sharp grass.

Body: Mid to light body. Thin palate.

Mouth Feel: Good dark maltyness in a rather thin body, very strongly roasted with taste more like a Stout. Some notable Peat maltish soot and faint Whiskey taste prevalent. Not much Heather honey on the tongue but rather subtle sweetness match quite well with the roast, burnt toast and bitter hops. A bit of soy sauce here, but otherwise not much imaginative fruityness or sweetness you can find here. This is strange but intense. Not bad at all.

Hoppiness: Faint grass in nose. Lime and sharp grass in nose and taste. Bitterness is quite strong for a lasting bitter-sweet roasty finish.

After Taste: Quite dry. Roasty with light Whiskey, bitter-sweet to mouth.

Comments: This is one of those BrewDog’s experiments that will divide drinkers’ opinion. This tastes more like a Stout than a Scotch Ale, with dark roastyness so strong. The customary Peat-like soots and Whiskey hint is nice but a bit gimmicky. I was looking for some intense honey, cocoa and coffee, but they are muted at best. A decent brew, quite nice to drink but it’s not something I will re-stock again.

It pours dark, but not black. It has a solid brown head. There are aromas of toffee and roasted malts. It is lively with the carbonation with roasted flavors, bread, and toffee flavors. It is a bit bitter on the palate.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown to black colour with a thin beige head. Aroma of honey, chocolate, toffee, roasted nuts plus dark fruits like prune and raisin. Taste of chocolate, prune, honey, burnt caramel, roasted nuts and some liquorice. Medium bodied, rich and soft carbonation. A sweet, warming, liquoricey finish. A really good beer, as I expect from Brewdog. Sweet and malty then spicy and bitter.
