3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma: coffee, roasted and caramel malts. Appearance: black, initially medium head, quickly disappearing. Taste: medium to heavy sweet. Palate: massive sweets, medium long finish, turning slightly bitter, coffee and roasted flavours coming up again, hints of dark chocolate. Overall: big fan of this Scotch Ale, very nice palate. Bottle from Brew Dog Ellon, Scotland.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Chip pan charred brown body, wheeze of a tan bubbly head didn’t last more than a few sips. Nose of cheap Lynx style deoderant, peppery malt and flat sweetness. Initial taste of clean, shoe polish bitterness and a beefy (Bovril?) maltines. There’s some sweetness that comes through, but I’m not even sure if you’re tasting it from the start and it’s just pushing everything forward. Decent balance between a treacly overall mouthfeel and peppery Scotch Ale grip towards the finish. Linger is sticky, discerning figs and more startling bitterness.
I don’t know what they’ve done to it, or if it’s me, but the sweetness and bitterness are more askew than I remember (in terms of the last 1-2 years to now).

330ml bottle from brewdog.com. Pours black with a silky rich vinous body and prominent sticky liquorice flavours and hints of coffee, although the honey took a bit of searching. Not big into this style but this was ok.
