COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed with ten different types of malt, and blended together with Scottish heather honey, it is a pantheon to the gods of intricacy and nuance; a beer that celebrates a confluence of ideas. History is written by the victors, and Dogma is Scotch Ale triumphant; evolved.
Complex, indulgent and encapsulating, Dogma gives more than a cursory nod to history, to make you ponder the very nature of beer itself.

Bottle, served in a Teku glass. Pours very dark brown with a tan head which disappears quicker than it probably should. Malty nose, driven by chocolate and roast malts. Taste, smokey, malty with a hint of honey. Low bitterness from the hops and lightly carbonated which drives home the roast flavour of this beer. The flavour changed as the beer comes to room temperature allowing the malts to work their magic and create a superb beer

On tap at Mandag i Annen at Cardinal, a leftover keg from Nærbø Ølfestival. Very dark brown colour, moderate beige head. Pleasant malty aroma, notes of chocolate and heather honey. Rich and malty complex flavour, medium sweet, notes of molasses, chocolate and honey, hints of oak and smoke, moderate hops.

hadn’t had an american dark ale in a while, and was immediately hit with molasses and alcohol. what was to be expected? bit more balanced than some though, with sweeter grainy malt detectable underneath. a bit nutty, too. yum.

Tasted always from bottle, since 2011 if I recall correctly. First time I was expecting something more subtle, less oily,...more in the Belhaven Wee Heavy or Skull Splitter from Orkney. What I found was a complex, sweet, oily, heavy scotch ale scrapping the limits of other darler styles a’la Imperial Stouts. A: Served in a Teku glass, straiht from the bottle, pours pith black with a tan/caramel thick head, that had less retention than expected. Just regarding my last sample, lacing isn’t present and I can recall previous tastings.(This bottle has been sitting in my cellar almost 2 years) S: Roastiness & caramel! Roasted caramalt? Coffe, malt, caramel, chocolate, some liqoricea and a slight smokiness all rounded by sweet backery aromas. Dark honey are present as well. T: Flavours point forward to caramel (and some burnt one!), roast coffee, espresso and due to the sweetnes, also kola nuts and nutmeg. Flavorwise honey is definitly present. Darker wild honeys. Some shy fruity character. All rounded with a hint of fonal dryness, all that sweet has to have its nemesis. T: Dryer that expected. It a really sweet brew, but not sticky. Of course oily, dense, palate covering, but not ovwewhelmingly sweet. M: Carbonation is mild and balances pretty well with the syroupy consistency. IMHO well rounded but I undertand that some peoiple could find it too sticky. O: I have to confess, this is one of my favourite beers. I can drink this straight on at least during the 6 colder months of the year. My Top 5. So this review may be biased but I have no doubt that this is an outstanding beer (independent of the style) and quite a bargain thoug. Secundus. 20131017

Close to black body with a frothy head consisting of big, light brown bubbles that never disappear. The aroma is strong and very sweet and malty, with lovely roasted notes, dark caramel, dark dried fruits and honey. Very sweet taste that is balanced by a moderate bitter finish. Strong roasted flavours of dark caramel, raisins, prunes and honey. Stunning mouthfeel! Full body, viscous oily texture, moderate to soft carbonation. A wonderful beer!

C est fort en chocolat et café avec une belle amertume de bière foncée. Le côté miel est très discret, il faut un peu chercher ... Il apparaît en fin de bouche
