Brewed with ten different types of malt, and blended together with Scottish heather honey, it is a pantheon to the gods of intricacy and nuance; a beer that celebrates a confluence of ideas. History is written by the victors, and Dogma is Scotch Ale triumphant; evolved.
Complex, indulgent and encapsulating, Dogma gives more than a cursory nod to history, to make you ponder the very nature of beer itself.

Aroma is clove, honey, molasses, toasty malts and toffee. Taste is rich and almost chewy in mouthfeel. Lots of thick rich malts with caramel and dark sugars to boot. Finishes with light tartness and slight liquor burn. Appearance is black with a thin light brown head that retains fairly well.

Appearance: clear brown with one finger of dense creamy tan head, good retention and lacing. (4/5) Aroma: butterscotch, dark fruit, honey, chocolate, earthy hops, light smoke. (8/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild bitter. (8/10) Palate: medium-full slightly slick body, moderate-low carbonation, lingering lightly boozy finish. (3/5) I hesitated before buying this, given my typical attitude towards the style. But this? This is interesting. Unlike so many of the style, it’s not at all peaty, and the smooth maltiness comes across as a mild brown sugar, or maybe molasses. It’s sweet, but not overly so. Definitely one of the top examples of this style I’ve tried to date. (15/20)

Bottle at home bought from Scotmid in Granton. Looks are nice. Deep and dark with a tan creamy head. Aromas of caramel sugar, prunes and some booze implied warmth. Rich dark fruity flavours. Brown sugar. Lowish carbonation. Smooth texture.

On tap at Highlander Pub. Pours a good size frothy brownish head and dissipates to a thin head. Has a deep dark amber appearance. Pretty good lacing. Aromas are light roasted malt, toffee and caramel. Flavours are mostly malts, hints of coffee and chocolate. There’s a little bit of the rum hints in the mix. A fairly sweet finish on the palate. Good retention. Nice slick and slightly oily mouthfeel.

Quick dissipating beige foamy head atop an opaque deep brown body. Nose of smokey malt. Very good body. Considering I’m not a huge Scottish fan but this is great stuff. Flavour has it all - mellow wooden cask, vanilla, nice toasty malt, brown sugar and smoke. Very nice. Congrats!
