COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Say hello to Ghost Deer. A defiant and irreverent, devil may care, supersonic bitch of a beer. Ghost Deer is a 28% fermented beer, the strongest ever fermented beer which is only ever served from a single handcrafted and authentic deer’s head.

The beer itself is a robust 28% blonde ale. After fermentation it is aged for 6 months in some amazing whisky, bourbon, rum and sherry barrels. There is only one Ghost Deer head and this beer will only ever be available on draft, served in a stemmed glass, direct from the mouth of the deer himself.

Bottle into snifter. Transparent light brown colour, no head. Smell is sherry- and alcohol- forward, with some rum too. A swirl brings up some legs. Taste is, again, sherry-forward, quite a rich body with traces of the malty beer that once was, some diacetyl maybe, liquorice, plenty of alcohol sharpness. At 28% this tastes stronger than it is. I find it hard to think of this as a beer. As a spirit it is drinkable but not great.

Completely flat. Aroma is sweet and slightly boozy, candy sugar, alcohol, caramel malts, oak, raisins, thinner, dates, bark, dark sugar. Taste is sweet and dry boozy, caramel malts, candy sugar, alcohol, licorice, raisins, oak, grass, dark sugar, burnt caramel, even more alcohol and oak. Very dry, longlasting warming boozyness. Nice enough, and quite interesting. But this is just a brief shadow, or rather a ghost, of for example Utopias.

Sample from bottle. Clear reddish amber on color. Huge whiskey barrel notes from the start, which continiue into more sweeter ones after that. Malty sweetness actually, some sherry barrels as well. Filling, strong and slightly boozy aroma. Strong as hell, some fruityness is there but mostly some liqour boozyness. Too strong for me

Bottle. Reddish clear. Vinous sherry overripe fruits on nose. Leafy nuttyness. Raisiny booze. What can I say? Loads of flavours, nutty nice malty shot. That is a beer.

6cl bottle @ Brewdog, Stockholm. Clear red color, no head. Cherry attacking your nose immediately, followed by woody, whiskey notes. Reminds me of some greek destilled stuff. Flavor has grapes, sherry, wood, sweet sugary notes. Quite a treat.

Pours amber with no foam. Incredible whisky cask and sherry flavours. Crazy, but very interesting and quite well tasting.

Tiny bottle, shared backstage with and courtesy of Tommy (the festival chairman) at Bryggerifestivalen in Trøndelag. Pours a clear nut brown body with no head. No surprises there. Aroma is sweet caramel, nuts, raisins, cognac, hints of wood, boozy alcohol and butterscotch. Taste is caramel sauce, nuts, dry wooden tones, burning alcohol, hints of grains. Boozy stuff, really. Thin body, dry finish - a bit like drinking a shot of brandy or something. Weird but kinda fun, and as the record-breaking item it is, it’s kinda cool to have tried it once. :-)

Consumed at home in the company of Loz, Jackie & Simon 03.08.13 Big thanks to Simon who picked this up at Jacks, Londis, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon today. Pours amber great clarity, perhaps a little too boozy with whisky quite prominent amongst a very heady cocktail of barrel ageing. Smooth despite the strength, chuffed to have tried but not totally my thing. A6 A5 T6 P3 Ov12 3.2

Crystal clear deep amber beer, no head whatsoever! Nose of fine spirits, cognac and a little whisky. Palate is smooth with zero carbonation. Somewhat drying from the alcohol. Rich flavours of woody spirits. It’s a very good blend of all the barrels - rum, sherry and whisky/bourbon all in good balance. Trace of toffee in there. Finishes dry with alcohol warmth and spice. It’s more spirit than beer in character but it’s done very well.
