COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Say hello to Ghost Deer. A defiant and irreverent, devil may care, supersonic bitch of a beer. Ghost Deer is a 28% fermented beer, the strongest ever fermented beer which is only ever served from a single handcrafted and authentic deer’s head.

The beer itself is a robust 28% blonde ale. After fermentation it is aged for 6 months in some amazing whisky, bourbon, rum and sherry barrels. There is only one Ghost Deer head and this beer will only ever be available on draft, served in a stemmed glass, direct from the mouth of the deer himself.

6cl bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours a light honey colour with no head. The nose has rum and raisin, maybe even dates with a suggestion of bread n butter pudding. The taste is somewhere between rum and brandy in flavour with a very big alcohol burn. The palate has very obvious alcohol as you would expect and this takes away somewhat from the general balance of it. Overall, though, glad they did it.

Bottle 6 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a clear amber with no head. Sweet oxidized caramel in the nose and heavy booze. Rich body, no carbonation, thick caramel, very soft and pleasing wooden notes - heavy on the Sherry in particular. Very boozy finish. But enjoyable. 050413

Little nip bottle from Kris Wines. The pour’s a rusty amber color with absolutely no head. Huge legs build on the side of the glass when I swirl the beer. The aroma’s quite spirit-like. Loads of sherry, dried wood, vanilla. Notes of fruity cranberry and trail mix. Red candied apple, caramel. Nice spiciness. Pretty inviting aromas. The taste is rich caramel and toffee. Nice, jammy red fruits. Plenty of strawberry and cranberry. Marzipan sweet dessert. The heat isn’t apparent, but slowly builds after a sip or two. Nice woody dry finish. Slightly oily body. The carbonation’s almost non-existent. Overall, a really cool experience. I liked this more than I thought I would. Worth a try.

Nip bottle thanks to bar manager Squiddy from Edinburgh. Pours clear amber, no head, of course. Aroma is raisins, caramel, sherry, oak, walnuts, vanilla, port wine. Very complex and spirit-forward. Taste is alcoholic, oaky, walnuts, figs, dark fruits, sherry notes, oxidation. Mouthfeel is oily, full bodied and warming. Alcohol is not overwhelming, although insisting. Very good.
