This Imperial India Pale Ale Rocks... Hardcore! But donít feel obliged to take our word for it, this little bottle has a grandiloquent story to tell.
2,204 malted Maris Otter grains gave all they had to offer the world to provide the robustly delicate toffee malt canvas for the ensuing epic.
4 Hop Cones willingly sacrificed themselves in fiery cauldron that is our brew kettle to ensure your mouth is left feeling punished and puckering for more.
9,900,000,000 yeast cells frantically fermented their little hearts out as the sugars were magically turned into alcohol in the dark depths of our fermentation tanks.
2 humans and 1 canine companion are relatively happy with the results
Note this is for the new petrol blue coloured labels with white lettering, which is 9.2%. Ratings for the older bottles with with bright blue label and black lettering should go under the first edition.

Bottle. Pours orange with white head. Nice hop nose. Tropical fruit. Grapefruit. Nice hoppy bitterness. This is a nice IIPA. I feel like it was nicer on keg at Brewdog.

Dark amber golden color. Healthy dose of caramel, apples, oranges and earth in the nose. Mouth is very full, but not sweet or cloying, though clearly malt accented. Underlying hops just pop their head up and crystal malt make for an unusual twist on this beer. English hops arenít nearly as agressive or bitter, but highly enjoyable. Well balanced. Moderate bitter finish with notes of caramel. Nice.

Amber, hazy, average and mostly diminishing light brown head. Moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, tropical fruitiness and some caramel and tropical fruitiness, grapefruit and some piney hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and some tropical fruitiness, grapefruit and some piney hoppyness, faint alcohol. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish, some light tropical fruitiness and light caramel, grapefruit and some piney hoppyness, some alcohol. Nicely hopped IIPA. As most of IIPAs this one is also too sweet/too much caramel (for me) to get 40/40+ points.

12 fl oz bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. 13OC11.

App.: Deep amber with a small tan head. Aroma: Strong and spicy, pepper, pine, caramel, thick, almost buttery malts, a little floral and fruity, blood oranges, really strong pepper and pine, some grapefruit and C-hops, serious stuff. Palate: Medium+ body, moderate-relaxed effervescence. Flav.: Follows the nose with strong peppery, pine, resin, rich fruity caramel, some floral notes, blood oranges, a bit perfumed, cardamon?; sweet with good bitterness and a slightly medicinal/menthol/eucalyptus note, fruit, a little alcohol, sort of refreshing fruitiness.

Another original from BD.

At its best this is a delightful beer. But it varies dramatically, it seems, between batches. Some are rather malty, others are awfully bitter. But at its best, as was the case with the last one I sampled, this is a scrumptious beer. Hard to predict, then, what it will taste like. Still, it is one of the best bottled British beers I have had.
