Commercial Description:
ADMIN NOTE: Brewdog have recently changed the recipe for this beer quite significantly. We are currently considering whether this change is sufficiently drastic to warrant a new listing. In the meantime could all raters ensure that they note which version they had in their rating to facilitate a split in due course, should that de deemed necessary. Whether you had the "new" or "old" version can be determined by reference to the batch number and the best before date. The newest batch is 037 and the BBD 03/09/10 (British dating) anything before this date or batch is the old version. Newer batches will probably appear before we have this sorted out.

Filtered bottle and sometimes available as a special in the cask.
"Explicit Imperial Ale".
Ingredients: Barley, hops, yeast, water.

My first bottle of this tasted disgusting (too bitter, perversely hopped, I thought). The following night I had another and rather liked it. What a pity I only have a limited supply. But what does it matter? Nothing lasts, all is transient; tonight, tomorrow.....Yes, a delicious beer. But beware, it has a very powerful hop flavour.

Poured a hazy orange with no head at all. Aroma is sweet with lemon and apricot notes. Some hops in the aroma but not too much. Taste is sweet and hoppy. Lemon, fruit, grass, and dry hops. Aftertaste is smooth and hoppy. Maybe could use more hops but overall very good!

Dark coppery colored with little white head. Sweet aroma with exotic fruits, peach, honey, licorice, still hops with some malty and grainy notes come up. Very complex aroma, I like this. Medium to full bodied. Flavor is more lemony with still sweet exotic fruits in start, aftertaste has same licorice and drying hops with some grass. Alcohol covered well.

Sembra più una strong ale ke una imperial IPA.... l’utilizzo dei malti è notevole ma la luppolatura è moderata

Rich syrup, fruity hop, wine gum aroma of pure goodness. Golden/orange colour with a thin white lace, seems full bodied. Syrup, oily texture. Quite spicy flavour of hops and fruit. Rather astringent flavour. With an explosion of alcohol. Rich tasty flavour of pine cones. Decent ale just lacking something.

660 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA, best before 21/11/10. Wow... this was filled up to a couple millimeters from the top. They’re surely not skimping here! Pours a hazy peach/amber color with a thin fizzy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of floral and citrus hops, stone fruits, perfume, soap, subtle leafy and nutty notes. Taste is bitter hops with resin and citrus notes as well as plum and other fruit notes. A woody finish and the faintest bit of alcohol. Medium bodied. Pretty decent,

Bottle/22 - New recipe - Poured a golden amber in color with a medium foamy white head that faded a bit, but still produced some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma was quite hoppy... grassy with some citrus... and some caramel in the background. Flavor was all hops up front (citrus/grapefruit) with a caramel/burnt sugar backbone. A decent IIPA... worth repeating.

Not one of these guys’ best efforts for sure. Not bad, but certainly not great. Poured a soap bubble off white head and good lace. Color is a fairly clear medium to light amber. Aroma is a little earthy, simple, and nice. Flavor’s about the same. Body is good and so is carbonation. Finish is about the same. Say good night dick.
