For our Finnish friends, we continued our Hello My Name Is series with this 8.2% double IPA, brewed with sea buckthorn, a tart and bitter berry found on the Finnish coastline.
We’ve combined the sea buckthorn’s tart character with a careful selection of hop flavours - good bittering hops early on, with our favourite dry hops for intense fruitiness on the nose. Bright, vibrant aromas of tangerine, mandarin and peach, with zesty hits of lime, envelop the nutty, caramel malt backbone. The intense fruitiness gives a jammy quality to the nose. On the palate is a warm biscuity sweetness, with tropical fruits in a supporting role to a huge grapefruit and orange bitterness. The sea buckthorn adds a tart, almost sour, dry finish, leaving the palate ready for the next mouthful.
Hello My Name is Päivi combines bitter, sweet and tart in perfect beery harmony.

Bottle from Csak A Jo Sör, Budapest, opened at some remote tram stop outside the city, 28.7.2015. Straight from the bottle, no appearance. A little sour-salty/ seaweed aroma with rotten fruit, taste salty, bitter and a little sour along with medicinal and iodine notes. Medium body, bitter, iodine finish and very carbonated. BBD 22.5.15.

0.33 bottle from Hops beer shop, Trieste. Clear pale golden orange with medium white or off white head. Citrus aromas, flowery, peach, some alcohol, biscuit. Medium body, and surprisingly drinkable. Sweet with weak bitter finish. Lacks some hoppy confidence, maybe due to the fact it’s best before is already past. Otherwise good.

Hazy/cloudy deep amber/orange color, average sized white head. Aroma of tropical fruits, apricot, orange, malt. Taste of tropical fruits and oranges with strong berry kick (kinda like blueberries). Real fruit bomb. Medium to full body, lively carbonation. Very bitter, but nicely balanced. Light tartness. This "Hello my name is" series kicks ass.

330ml bottle (Vest, Riga)
Nice toffee caramel aroma, some nice sharp berries too. Palate quite light for 8.2%, but it’s a sweetish taste, lots of caramel, and that’s where they’ve hidden it. Relatively decent balance for a DIPA, and the sharpness of the berries aids that (unusual for me, often they ruin a beer). Gets heavier and sweeter later. I’m guessing the 1-sip tickers will love this, but those of us who have a whole bottle will rightfully suffer. Surprisingly good, all things considering. I didn’t suffer too much at all.

Bottled at Ugglan, Stockholm. Hazy golden, small head. Caramelly nose with some citrus. Sweet and sticky with medium body and rounded, sticky mouthfeel Syrup, caramel and some stone fruit. Mid bitter finish. Limp, caramelly and quite sad. Like the berries, not the beer.
