Bottled, seasonal
single hop simcoe IPA
This Christmas, wish for a green Christmas. Where flurries of hop flakes blanket the world like you’ve never seen it before. And crunching through crisp, sparkling drifts releases billows of pineapple, citrus and papaya with every step. The reign of the snow angel is over. Long live the hop angel where parks and playgrounds become adorned with the outlines of celestial beings that fell to Earth from angry looking emerald clouds. Tune in to breakfast TV to find life’s on hold for 24 hours as this ’hop day’ demands you rocket down a hill on the back of a baking tray. Or simply raise a glass of this festive IPA as we wish you a very hoppy Christmas.

Bottle. Pours amber with white head. Resinous pine aroma, slightly dusty. Tastes has resinous pine with a heavy malt presence, caramel, toffee and biscuit, slightly nutty. Slightly sweet with a moderate bitter finish, slightly sticky. A waste of simcoe, too much malt and sweetness, not enough bitterness but not an altogether bad beer

Small bottle. Light orange/amber body with a small head. Aroma has pine needles and pineapple. Rather sweet malty taste with medium level hoppiness. Expected to taste some ginger or spices but it’s just a regular Brewdog style IPA. Smilar to Punk but a bit stronger.

330ml bottle (Alko Arkadia, Helsinki) Fairly simple sweet exotic fruity hop aroma, some sticky crystal malt mashiness. Smooth palate, pleasant carbonation. Slightly floury malts, a little sweeter than I’d like, but that does help keep the alcohol in check. Spicy mandarin and orange peel spiciness. Some stale pepperiness in the finish. Arrives quickly , and leaves quite quickly too. Not an unpleasant encounter, but they really need to leave the floury mashiness behind, probably crystal malts.

Bottle 33cl, a clear amber beer with good head. Nose is very hopy on pine. Aroma is on fresh hops, melon, almond and grapefruit. Properly done but very near the other new beer from the brewery, became boring.

toffeeslot (118) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 29, 2012
Nice aroma - bags of hops which I believe are Simcoe. Colour is light amber with a nice foamy head. Taste is citrus, pine and some sweet malts. Finish is suprisingly short. No indication of the relatively high abv. A very refreshing beer, and definitely something more drinkable than a lot of the heavy spiced Xmas beers which come out at this time of year.

Bottle from Appalachian Wines, Edinburgh 181112
Dark golden amber, clear, frothy off white head that dissipates to a thin rim
Aroma - Grassy hops, some citrus zest, soft golden caramel malt background
Taste - Grassy zesty hops, more zest than grass, citrus, orange resinous hops, caramel malts, touch of honey malts, fairly malty IPA with bitter citrus and grassy hops, alcohol fairly noticeable
Palate - Medium carb and body, oily texture, smooth. Finish - bitter zest, grassy hops, clean finish with a touch of alcohol
Overall - A decent IPA, the sweet malt background tempers some of the grassy zest bitterness from the hops. No idea why it’s called a Christmas beer.

Parempia tyylilajin edustajia on maailma pullollaan. Ei tämä silti huonoa ole.

Bottle. Dark golden, average and fully diminishing head. Moderate, malty and sweetish aroma, light caramel, some tropical fruitiness, citrus - piney hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, some caramel and light tropical fruitiness, some citrus - piney hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and sweetish, some caramel and light tropical fruitiness, piney hoppyness. Well hopped fruity and sweetish IPA - could be drier (and have less caramel).
