This Christmas, wish for a green Christmas. Where flurries of hop flakes blanket the world like you’ve never seen it before. And crunching through crisp, sparkling drifts releases billows of pineapple, citrus and papaya with every step. The reign of the snow angel is over. Long live the hop angel where parks and playgrounds become adorned with the outlines of celestial beings that fell to Earth from angry looking emerald clouds. Tune in to breakfast TV to find life’s on hold for 24 hours as this ’hop day’ demands you rocket down a hill on the back of a baking tray. Or simply raise a glass of this festive IPA as we wish you a very hoppy Christmas.

Pours dark orange with thin white head. Burst of citrus hops on opening. Taste is very much orange peel, lemon and lime tempered with biscuity malt. Very nice and easy to drink for it’s 7.2%

Bottle from Archive Beer Boutique 010115. This is a big full flavoured hoppy beer. Deep orange with a big head, plenty of passionfruit and a touch of melon also. Nott a beer for the beginner.

Dunkles Bernstein. Wenig Schaum. Tolles Wechselspiel aus Bitterkeit und Frucht. Grapefruit und andere Zitrusfrüchte. Ein schön gemachtes IPA nicht nur für Weihnachten.

Bottle at home. Pours amber/reddish/copper with a frothy wee head. On the nose is floral and slightly citrus-y. Tastes fruity hoppy, with a nice amount of bitterness to balance the sweetness.

33cl bottled shared at oldmanriver’s potluck post-Nikolaus tasting 12/2014, thanks Chris. Radiant Simcoe orange peel and peach treacle merge into dry, hoppy, potent Brewdog hoppiness, throwing all advent notions of a white Christmas aside to arrange a typical manger of pomo hoppy goodness against a relaxed UK malt marmelade backdrop. Nice brew, questionable seasonality.

Prima Bier!

Not bad, but not particularly memorable, everything is standard. Too much bitterness

Dark amber colour and a fruity/caramel aroma. Basically IPA + sweetness added on the top, void of any other taste or complexity. There is not much in the way of spices that would make this a true, fun Christmas beer.

Bottled. A clear, deep amber/caramel colour with virtually no head. Fresh hoppy, piney aromas, with a touch of sweet fruit. Hops slightly less dominant in the mouth, balanced by a smooth maltiness and alcohol warmth. Good.

Keg at Brewdog Shepherd’s Bush, London. An amber coloured pour with a thin white head on top. Hoppy, tropical fruit aroma. Tastes similar, hoppy, tropical fruit, slightly sweet, some grapefruit, caramel and a hint of marmalade and pineapple. Not what I would call a Christmas beer but this was an excellent IPA from Brewdog.
