This Christmas, wish for a green Christmas. Where flurries of hop flakes blanket the world like you’ve never seen it before. And crunching through crisp, sparkling drifts releases billows of pineapple, citrus and papaya with every step. The reign of the snow angel is over. Long live the hop angel where parks and playgrounds become adorned with the outlines of celestial beings that fell to Earth from angry looking emerald clouds. Tune in to breakfast TV to find life’s on hold for 24 hours as this ’hop day’ demands you rocket down a hill on the back of a baking tray. Or simply raise a glass of this festive IPA as we wish you a very hoppy Christmas.

Bière qui ressemble à une IPA, goût de houblon qui reste bien en arrière goût. Le houblon n’est pas trop fort, juste la bonne amertume.

Tap. Nice. Pineapple, citrus, minerals. Xmas? But a nice beer. Finish after bitterness fades is a bit yeasty. Not much else to say.

Bottle from Trembling Madness, York. Golden coloured with orange marmalade and citrus flavours followed by fruit and pine on the finish. Excellent, but not a Christmas ale.

Aroma: intense floral hops, citrus fruits, ripe oranges. Appearance: clear Amber, medium, frothy, white head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: hoppy sweets continue, light sweets, turns slight bitter in the finish, medium carbonation. Overall: very nice, intense APA, fantastic aroma. Bottle from Drinks of the World, Zurich HB.

Comfortably the best of a brace of Brewdog Christmas specials sampled on the day 2014. Absurdly drinkable for the strength, so it’s perhaps a blessing that I had but one in the fridge. Burnt orange colour with a colossal head. Huge, fresh fruit salad aroma. Juicy Fruit chewing gum, passionfruit, mango. Luscious Simcoe happiness. Full bodied. On the tongue, kiwi fruit, passionfruit, mango again. Good malt base. A stonking pale ale. Christmas Day 2014. 330 ml bottle from Leura Cellars.

A rather gentle IPA which can be enjoyed in large quantities. Hoppy but not too bitter either. With a hint of Apple.

Light golden colour with little to no carbonation, medium white head - rapidly receeding. Beautiful flowery hop aroma, the hops smell ultra fresh - slightly grassy. The hoppy aroma translates directly to taste, almost note for note. Grass and pine dominate. Density is a little light on, and lack of carbonation let’s it down a little.

33cl bottle at home. Somewhat pale amber/orange with a medium white soapy head. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Well balanced bitter and sweet tones. Pine, grapefruit, citrus, peach, herbs and caramel. Quite a nice and warming IPA.

Citrus and stone fruit, not much festive aroma but maybe just right for the aussie xmas season? Crystal clear golden pour. Minimal head. No alcoholic burn. Smooth and well balanced. Bit of peppery spice at the end as well.

Bottle from a deli in Glasgow. Pours amber with a cream head. Lovely fruity pine aroma. The taste is full of flavour. Lots of resinous pine with caramel in the background. Really bitter finish. Excellent.
