Bottled, seasonal
single hop simcoe IPA
This Christmas, wish for a green Christmas. Where flurries of hop flakes blanket the world like you’ve never seen it before. And crunching through crisp, sparkling drifts releases billows of pineapple, citrus and papaya with every step. The reign of the snow angel is over. Long live the hop angel where parks and playgrounds become adorned with the outlines of celestial beings that fell to Earth from angry looking emerald clouds. Tune in to breakfast TV to find life’s on hold for 24 hours as this ’hop day’ demands you rocket down a hill on the back of a baking tray. Or simply raise a glass of this festive IPA as we wish you a very hoppy Christmas.

Sehr blumiger Hopfenantrunk, Limettennuancen. Ansonsten wenig fruchtig, dafür getreidig, mittelstarke Bitterkeit. Diese steigt im Mittelteil, die Hopfiekgiet bleibt konstant auf hohem Level. Orange, stark bitterer Abgang. 10/11/12/12/11/12

Bottle, picked up from BD SB, split with JF on the train to nowhere mini tasting, 30/12/13. From the bottle so guessing golden amber with a decent off white head - says Phillip S Styne. Nose is a tropical fruit medley, peach, mango, orange sherbet, pine resin, hop notes, toasted malts. Taste carries a big mango punch, passion fruit, fleshy peach, mandarin, caramel malt, red grapefruit. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, hop lead bitterness in the closure. Nice work from BD - decent hopped up tropical juice!

from Bier-Bienne - pretty clear dark blond beer under a solid white foam; flowery and piney hoppiness, notes of caramel; tasty and with a good malt backbone, fairly bitter and with long earthy and piney hoppy notes

330ml bottle (Alko Arkadia, Helsinki) Fairly simple sweet exotic fruity hop aroma, some sticky crystal malt mashiness. Smooth palate, pleasant carbonation. Slightly floury malts, a little sweeter than I’d like, but that does help keep the alcohol in check. Spicy mandarin and orange peel spiciness. Some stale pepperiness in the finish. Arrives quickly , and leaves quite quickly too. Not an unpleasant encounter, but they really need to leave the floury mashiness behind, probably crystal malts.

Bottle: Deep golden, almost not hazy; exotic fruits (mango and so on…) with piney and herbal traces; solid bitter-sweet flavour, quite full bodied; dryishh medical or cough-syrupy finish with a good dash of balancing caramel; but a lingering dry hoppy aftertaste. Classy stuff…

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, golden colour with a mid-sized and slightly off-white foamy head. Fruity and slightly floral hoppy aroma with notes of citrus, grapefruit and tangerine. Moderately bitter and delicately sweet flavour, medium bodied with a crisp carbonation. Dry-ed malt-character with a tinge of cough syrup and loads of hops, including fruity and exotic accents, also a lighter resiny touch; dry fruity and resiny hoppy finish with a mildly malty backbone in the aftertaste. Very more-ish brew. 19.I.14
