One of our favourite American hops; all about the fruit. Think blood orange, orange zest and citrussy goodness fruit, the fruit is balanced by floral notes in the most classic of new wave IPA hops.

Keg at BrewDog Shoreditch. It pours clear amber with a medium white head. The nose is orange, peach, tangerine, pine, marmalade, earth and hay. The taste is pine, zesty citrus, orange, tangerine, passion fruit, assertive bitterness, juicy fruit, light resin and some underlying sweetness to balance it out with a bitter finish. Medium body and moderate-high carbonation. Hides abv and drinks well.

33 cl bottle.
Pours clear golden color with a medium sized head. Aroma is grape fruity and somewhat resinous with hops, mild orange zest and pine needle notes also. Flavor is caramelous and tropically fruity, a bit sweet but the grape fruits cut it through a bit, mild piney notes with hay and dried fruits. Thick oily palate, doesn’t feel quite fresh but definitely the best of the bunch. Hop profile ok, a bit too sweet and resinous.

Appearance: Hazy amber color with a white layer that leaves a fine curtain lacing.
Aroma: Slightly sweet, rich hoppy and fruity.
Palate: Medium pluss body. Slightly sweet and a rich bitterness. Average carbonation. Oily texture.
Taste: Rich grape hoppy and balanced tropical fruity.
Overall impression: A really nice single hop IPA.
Personal stats: On tap at BrewDog in Birmingham, England.

Keg @ Brewdog Shoreditch. The pour’s light amber with a small head. The nose is piss-soaked hay, some armpit, rotting tropical fruit funk. Light lemon zest and general citrus. The taste is strong lemon peel citrus, more funky armpit. Heavy tropical fruit juice. Quite syrupy, sweet. Loads of pine needle. Strong bitterness on the finish. Slick body, very sticky stuff. Overall, decent. Not a standout.

On tap at Brewdog Brum. Burnt, odd flavour. Evidently Amarillo is not one of those hops which are light, fresh or tropical. This is more like Chinese pork, or griddled orange segments. The aroma is faint, but slightly reminiscent of childhood September evenings: the sunlight fading, the grass moistening and the naivete hardening. Perfectly well executed, but the pickled fircone detracts from the qualities I associate with my fave OAPs.

Med amber color. Blood oranges and sac blanc nose, very head. The mouth is med with tons of weed. Wow, this has to be the most heady, slightly astringent mouth, but fantastic.
