2013 Single-hop release. Part of the IPA is dead series. Single hopped with Amarillo @6.9%
Re-Released as part of 2014 selection. @7.2%
One of our favourite American hops; all about the fruit. Think blood orange, orange zest and citrussy goodness fruit, the fruit is balanced by floral notes in the most classic of new wave IPA hops.

Keg @ Brewdog Shoreditch. The pour’s light amber with a small head. The nose is piss-soaked hay, some armpit, rotting tropical fruit funk. Light lemon zest and general citrus. The taste is strong lemon peel citrus, more funky armpit. Heavy tropical fruit juice. Quite syrupy, sweet. Loads of pine needle. Strong bitterness on the finish. Slick body, very sticky stuff. Overall, decent. Not a standout.

Bottle from Bottle park, Bratislava. Deep amber color with medium off-white head. Nice citrus hoppy aroma. Strong hoppy bitter taste with grapefruit, lime, lemon zest, resin. Solid malty backbone. Dry hoppy bitter finish. Tasty.

On tap at Brewdog Brum. Burnt, odd flavour. Evidently Amarillo is not one of those hops which are light, fresh or tropical. This is more like Chinese pork, or griddled orange segments. The aroma is faint, but slightly reminiscent of childhood September evenings: the sunlight fading, the grass moistening and the naivete hardening. Perfectly well executed, but the pickled fircone detracts from the qualities I associate with my fave OAPs.

330ml bottle from Ales by Mail

Vertical with the rest of the IPA is Dead 2014 series (Amarillo, Comet, EXP366, Kohatu) - Pours clear copper orange with a smooth white head. Aroma of stingy grassy notes, caramely malts, some floral hoppiness, citrus and zest. Taste is fresh hoppy, a bit stuffy and crisp malty with some floral notes, grass, zesty and juicy fruitness. Finish is smooth, malty and sweetish with some floral and zesty hoppiness. Okay, but doesn’t showcase the Amarillo hop as amazingly as some of the other single hop Amarillo beers do.

330ml bottle. Clear, orangey deep golden to amber colour with average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Citrusy fruity, hoppy aroma, orange, orange zest, some grapefruit, a touch of pine. Taste is citrusy and moderately bitter hoppy, notes of lemon, orange, orange zest, a touch of pine, a floral touch, caramel malty basis. Excellent exposition of the Amarillo qualities. Definitely the best of this year’s series and probably one of the best single hop IPAs you can get.

UPDATED: APR 12, 2014 Keg @ BrewDog & 330ml bottle from Good Spirits Co. . Yellow amber colour, not much head. Spicy pine hop aroma. Dry orange flavour, Bitter orange biscuit aftertaste. Solid IPA. Bottle better than keg.

Med amber color. Blood oranges and sac blanc nose, very head. The mouth is med with tons of weed. Wow, this has to be the most heady, slightly astringent mouth, but fantastic.

33cl bottle, @home. Batch 065. BB 11/03/15. Deep golden, thick whitehead. Citrusy, lemon hoppy aroma, some catpee. Flavor has citrus, gooseberry notes. Mediumbodied. Feels quite weak somehow. Not as good as I expected this to be.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Showcases the hop fairly well - loads of peach and stone fruit focus with a nice zestiness to it. Solid drop

Aroma is floral with some sweeter fruity tones. Flavour has peach syrup and caramel. Well balanced but misses a bit of bite.
