COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Good old Bramling Cross is elegant, refined, assured, (boring) and understated. Understated that is unless you hop the living daylights out of a beer with it. This is Bramling Cross re-invented and re-imagined and shows just what can be done with English hops if you use enough of them. Poor Bramling Cross normally gets lost in a woeful stream of conformist brown ales made by sleepy cask ale brewers. But not anymore. This beer shows that British hops do have some soul, and is a fruity riot of blackberries, pears, and plums. Reminds me of the bramble, apple and ginger jam my grandmother used to make.

Bottle 330ml, big thanks to @igniztion Pours amber with a hint of golden on an offwhite head. Aroma of hops (duhh..), wonderfully hopped. Love single hops, for a newbie it´s good to taste and smell on only one hop. Even though it only got one hop it feels like it is balanced. Mild, just enough bitter to make you wanting more of this great beer.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. First things first: this is a deliciously hopped beer. Now to try and say something sensible about it. Hops are fresh resin to start (like any IPA worth its salt), then it flattens out a little, to leave a final third of dry/sweet notes like Babycham perhaps, or white dessert wine. I can see leaf. I can see blackberry crumble. Very nice and light in texture.

Nose is sweets, dry hops, then weak leaves, feel and carb are medium, taste is dry hops, little pine, mild malt, then sweeter notes.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE 08-02-12, at Kitty’s, Helsinki) The beer poured amber and almost clear. Its head was quite large, white and it lasted long. Aroma had hops, nettles, exotic fruits and malts. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, hops, fruitiness, exotic fruits, sweetness, straw and bitterness. Aftertaste was bitter and mildly sweet. An ok beer but I would have like the body to be fuller. This hop variety was a new to me.

On tap at the Hillgrove Porter Stores, Bristol 18/2/2011. Amber coloured with a slight white head. Hedgerow fruit and herbal aroma with a grassy edge. Sweetish, biscuit malt flavour with more fruit and a decent bitter finish, Very good and my favourite of the four beers in the series.

Bottled (BB 02/2012)@Kitty’s
Copper color, good cloudy white head, lace. Funny fruity aroma of blackberry, apricot and orange marmalade.Medium to full-bodied. Flavor is similar funny mess of marmalade, spruce needles, blackberry and apricot. Quite sweetish IPA and very exotic hop profile. But unfortunately this is not my cup of tea.

Pours orange with a foamy head. Aroma is hoppy and fruity. Taste is quite fruity and exotic. Not very bitter, but still a nice finish.

Sample from keg at the launch event, Euston Tap on 15 February 2011. Amber colour. Vanilla on the aroma. Rather restrained. Peppery flavour. Firm mouthfeel. Interesting to see a Bramling Cross single hopped beer at these sort of hop levels. Not surprisingly it isn’t as assertive in the hop department as some of the others made with more aromatic varieties but very agreeable and surprisingly drinkable. Doesn’t seem 7.5%.

On keg at Holyrood 9A. Launch event. Slightly better head retention than others, but that could be cellaring/pouring. Aroma is perfumy, toffee apples, light citrus.Noticeably different from the others. Hops more pronounced, sweet, but surprising notes of malty treacle and butter, with some citrus. Sweet and resiny aftertaste. Controversially, this one is actually my favourite of the set.
