COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Pacific North West of America is home to the Citra hop. America is not just about cheer leaders, a silly version of football, elastic top jeans and cheeseburgers. They grow remarkable hops and Citra is a killer example of this, embodying all that is good about American hops and then some. A relatively new hop on the block, it may even seduce you into thinking the American Dream is not just a catch phrase to sell movies and elect Presidents. Fearfully hard to resist, this beer is loaded with brash citrus, grapefruit orange, hints of resinous pine and touches of black currant. Devilishly moreish. I am a little bit too obsessed with this beer for my own good.

Hazy light amber color; medium sized creamy head. The aroma is not your typical lemony Citra hop, but something more strange, with flowers (carnation), some citrus fruits, tropical fruits, light manure too. The mouthfeel is lean (more than the 3 sisters) and the mouthfeel dry; decent toffee flavor, with strong bitterness; the hopping brings a lot of oils, some resins, and a pleasant citrus fruitiness; dry and long final, with traces of fruits. Good, but the underlying Ale has too much character and it shades the hop.

2011-07-13, draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen, 6-4-7-3-13=33
Amber color with a red hue; creamy head. The aroma is mild, caramel, brown sugar, some hop, some fresh grass. Medium body; there is a strong caramel flavor, with minimal residual sweetness, strong hopping; but in the final there are more caramelly notes than aromatic hop. The final is strong, persistent, with a light trace of mint.
It may be considered a bit boring, for sure less interesting than the bottled version (when it already performed below expectations).

2011-06-30, bottle from Havnens, Vejle, 8-3-7-4-14=36
Cloudy light amber color, with medium sized head. Strong citrusy aroma, although not the strongest Citra around, with cedar fruit above all. The mouthfeel seems less dry than the Nelson Sauvin (tasted side to side), bearing a quite good flavor of caramel and toffee, but that is somehow too strong and characterial (earthy) and therefore screens the hop; good bitterness level, but less excitement in the final than the Nelson Sauvin; there is a mild manure character all the way through (somehow also in the other 3 sisters).
Although it’s a good beer, I’m much more partisan for clean single hop beers, that allow the hop to develop completely, like the wonderful Häffner Bräu Hopfenstopfer Citra Ale.
