The devastatingly bitter finish will drill straight through your taste buds. If you like hops and bitterness then go ahead. But be warned: this beer has more bitterness than a human palate (or nipple) can detect. For freaks, craft beer junkies and stamp collectors only.

The second placed beer in our 2012 Prototype Challenge is a BrewDog staff favourite, and made a brief guest appearance in our bars last summer.

Pour is pale, orange tinted gold, big frothy white head. Pine, spruce, lemon zest, herbs, grapefruit nose - intense. Really intense. Flavour is bitter up front, in the middle and in the finish. Theres some malt character in there somewhere, hard to pin any kind of characteristic on it among all those hops. Malt character comes to the fore as it warms, understed biscuit malt. Light enough body, soft carbonation. Finish is fruity, zesty and grapefruit bitterness.

Golden, almost clear. Low head. Full, fruity aroma, melon and peach. Also pear and pineapple in the taste. Really good bitterness at the end.

Clear golden color. Aroma: Hoppy! Grapefruit, orange, citrus, caramel, bready and banana. Taste: Pomegranate, grapefruit, citrus, grassy and toast. Medium body, slick texture and very bitter finish. Absolutely amazing IPA from BrewDog here. Took me by surprise. Lives up to it’s bitterness claim, it is definitely extremely bitter, with a sweet aroma to go with it. Might get this again.

Linnet (1140) - Karlstad, SWEDEN - AUG 9, 2013
bottle from systembolaget Ar: resin, floral, citrus, spruce, pine, pineapple, orange zest, caramel, bread, dough, alcohol, slight petroleum notes. Ap: slightly hazy ambe colour, medium white head, lacing. T: light sweetness, very bitter, grapefruity, resinous, lots of tropical fruits and unfortunately petroleum (nelson sauvin?). P: medium body, thin feel for ABV, fizzy, lingering bitter finish.

Rating this on memories from a couple of days ago. Nice crisp hoppyness and refreshing. Nice colour and aroma.

Pours a remarkably dirty looking light amber body, there are lots and lots of particles and flakes that looks like mould. The white head is long-lived and reduces to a fully lasting layer, and leaves a good amount of lacing. The intense aroma is extraordinarily hoppy, this is like smelling a bag of hop pellets! Some nice tropical notes manage to crawl their way past the hop pellet wall. Nice! There is quite much sweetness in the taste, but it’s nowhere near taming the violently bitterness in the finish. The strong flavours are of course also dominated by the hops, mostly tropical fruits and pine needles, and in the back some caramel and alcohol. With such a massive bitterness I guess the caramel part could have been increased a bit in order to make the brew a bit more balanced. A bit rough mouthfeel.

Prototype bottle from Brew Dog.com. Poured a clear bright gold with a meek white head. Aroma had some good piney hop and citrus present. Sweet, fruity flavour with robust hop bitterness. Hard to find fault here, a really solid IPA.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Pours golden amber with a White head. Very fruity and bitter, citrus peel and grape seeds. Yet balanced. There have been times where I would realy have loved this one.
