The devastatingly bitter finish will drill straight through your taste buds. If you like hops and bitterness then go ahead. But be warned: this beer has more bitterness than a human palate (or nipple) can detect. For freaks, craft beer junkies and stamp collectors only.

The second placed beer in our 2012 Prototype Challenge is a BrewDog staff favourite, and made a brief guest appearance in our bars last summer.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. This is a golden beer with floral tropical fruit flavours, a sweet zesty, slight sugary body with bitter grapefruit in the finish.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours cloudy orange with a sticky white head leaving great lacing. Nose is very pine and grapefruit forward. Quite sweet and lemony. Quite simple stuff but they have done it very well. Sometimes less is more. This beer sums that up. Very straight forward stuff but done fantastically. Light caramel with big hop presence to it. Heavy grapefruit and pine needles. Astringent bitterness to finish the beer and it’s lengthy. Great stuff

On tap @ Patricks. Hazy dark orange body with a small off-white head. Very nice and complex aroma of citric fruit, tropical fruit, pine, malt and caramel. Flavor has the same elements as found in the aroma with a nice bitterness, but a bit too sweet for me. By the end of my class the whole thing feels sticky en my mouth. Fine body and a long aftertaste with bitterness and sweet malt.

I wonder what this trying to be? Fruity early but converts to a more typical old fashion style with old hard malts and hops. A little unfriendly albeit not at all ’hoppy’.

On tap at Patrick’s. A small, off-white head sits on top of an unclear orange-golden body. The aroma is very, very citrusy, with pine cones and malty sweetness. The flavor has fruity and piney hops up front, with malts in the back. Nice bitterness. Full body, a bit sweetish, with nice carbonation. Bitter fruity finish. A bit sweet this one, but sure tasteful. 130601

Frisk och fruktig med smak av humle, malt, tropisk frukt, mycket grapefrukt och tall. Bra beska.

Draught @ Patricks Pub og Restaurant, Kristiansand
Pours hazy deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, grape, orange, pine and grass. Taste is medium sweet and medium to heavy bitter with a long fruity and bitter finish. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Bottle from Birratrovo, Como, batch 082, bb 12-04-14, 7.2% ABV
Hazy blond color with small head. The aroma is hop awesomeness, with pungent fruits: passion fruit, citrus; and light manure. Toffee flavor, very good, with dry and smooth mouthfeel; the hops express all their aromatic components, fruits and resins; bitter oranges, light grapefruit, light passion fruit; the final is lean and bold.
A wonderful clean example.
