Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

Bottle. Black with some reflections, clear. Nice head. Aroma is intense, resin, spruce, herbs, maybe some caramel, minimal dark chocolate. Dry taste, strong bitterness. Flavor of bitter grapefruit, grass, some chocolate. Bitterness is a bit grassy but not much. Full body, medium carbonation. Congratulation for BrewDog for making more IPA than black, it is quite rare, most bipas are stouty, this one have some roast notes, but not much, perfect balance.

Poured from a bottle in a 4 pack into a pint glass blackish with a tan head. Aroma is roasty hops. Flavor is definite west coast Simcoe with malts. The burnt flavor is dominate which is exactly what a black IPA needs. So good. Balanced better that the average and definitely glad I have 3 more bottle to share & enjoy.

Bottle:   Nice looking lacing, dark, fairly black.   Smooth on the tongue.   Soft roastiness, a little black malt, with also a very soft hop bitterness.   Good balance, clean, chewy.   Pretty tasty.   Moderate to full body and mouthfeel.   Hoppy finish, a little black malt.   Solid, not real big on either end, but a good balance.

330ml bottle from Tesco. Bubbly tan head, good lacing. Body is black. Nose is smokey charcoal, burnt sugar, grassy hops. Loads of hops in the flavour, malt backbone stands up well though. Pine, a little citrus. Roasty. Aftertaste has some boozy caramel notes. Quite thick mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Incredibly hoppy for a dark beer.

On tap in Hobart. Black colour with frothy, off-white head. Aroma is stout-like, malty chocolate, caramel, with sweet hop aromas of orange and grapefruit. Flavour is sweet with roast malt, a nice lingering hop bitterness. Balanced; very good.
