COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, occasional
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

Poured into snifter from bottle, super dark with a chocolate head. Very hoppy up front with a bitter, malty exit. Not bad, but I would put many choices well ahead of this.

Bottle thanks to Dmac. Pours a very attractive, almost black brown color with a small tan head. Aroma is of lots of roasty malts, light chocolate, pine hops, eucalyptus, and some over-toasted bread. Taste is smooth, light toasted malts, chocolate, some pine hops, citrus bitterness, light herbal notes. Solid.

Light dark color, nice head. Lots of hops in aromas and taste . Bitter aftertaste.

An excellent black IPA with huge dark malt flavors and plenty of hops. Deep black in color with a nice tan head. Medium bodied. Excellent to style.

Dark as night. Mild aroma.. Not any bright hop aromas or taste... A little bitterness. Some dark malts. Wish it were a little more lively with the hop additions but a very repeatable black ipa... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hoppsan (129) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - DEC 22, 2013
330 ml bottle, part of mix pack. Pours solid black with medium, creamy head. Nice fruity hoppiness in aroma, pine and roasted notes with tar and licorice in taste. Low in sweetness, high bitterness. Light palate with medium long, bitter finish. High drinkability but also (unnecessarily) high ABV. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Fruity - tropics (a hint of pineapple) and citrus, in aroma with a little bit of alcohol. Pours clear, dark brown with nice, tanned head, not very solid, low lacing. Medium sweetness, lightly bitter. Perfect taste of fruits mixed with chocolate and coffee (long lasting coffee taste). Very pleasant, candied orange peel aftertaste. Perfect! Lively beer with full body and slick feel. Very drinkable, too bad it ends so quickly, I just can’t help wanting more of it :)

Bottled. Pours black with a big brown head. Smells fruity, grassy hoppy, a bit sweet, a bit coffee and roasted malt. Tastes creamy grassy hoppy, a bit sweet, a bit sour, gooseberries, mild bitterness.

Couleur noire profonde, arômes grillés et torréfiés. Bouche riche mais bien buvable. Amertume torréfié et houblonesque. Très bonne stout mais pas franchement expressive du côté simcoe.

Philym (944) - St Neots, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - DEC 21, 2013
Appearance: Black with 3 finger thick tan head. Aroma: Toast, musky, orange/grapefruit marmalade and pine. Taste: Low sweet and sourness with medium/high bitterness. Palate: Thick coarse texture, light body, average carbonation, astringent bitter, burnt/roast malty, citrus finish. Comments: Tasty and glass lace. But very bitter.
