Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

Deep black pour with a deep brown head. Sticky and a little bit fruity. The aroma is really lovely - bright pine and fruit with a bit of blackberry and licorice with a bright blueberry aroma. Assertively hopped but quite lovely. Bright and juicy.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 14A, adapted). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 218. AROMA: predominant hop aroma with a floral and piny character. slight roasted malt background. APPEARANCE: very dark brown color but translucent with ruby highlights. medium beige head with average retention. TASTE: predominant hop flavours with a floral and piny character. background sweet malt notes with faint roastiness. medium bitterness with a semi-dry finish. PALATE: velvety medium body with average carbonation. OVERALL: a very interesting black ipa, more inclined towards the hops than the roastiness of the malts.

Draft. Dark nearly black with thin brown head. Piney roast malt aroma with hints of chocolate. Slightly chocolaty malt and sweet up front. Finish is piney hop. More like a hoppy porter than a dark IPA.

Poured jet black with little head. Quite a sweet fruity aroma, quite citrussy. Flavour: candy, citrus fruits, toasted malt too. Alcohol is hidden quite well. Pretty damn tasty

Keg @ Brew Dog Liverpool. Black with a thin o/w head. Fairly strong tasting but not overbearing. There’s a small sweetness alongside a tropical fruitiness with darker malt notes providing a pretty decent twist that includes hints of roasted malt.

Black, strong brown head. Notes of roastiness and fading US hop. Bitter with hints of malt and roastiness. Finishes bitter. Okay, I suppose. My sample seems a bit past its prime.

UPDATED: MAY 2, 2015 Black beer with brown head. Aroma with pine, liquorize, grapefruit and slight roast. Palate is quite full-bodied and low carbonated. Taste is very malty with pine and grapefruit. Finish has roasted malts and pine.

330ml bottle. Aroma is sweet coffee, caramel, roasted nuts. Apperance is very dark brown, almost black with a very brown-ish head. Taste is sweet, light bitter. Very creamy, soft carbonation. A bit unbalanced bitterness/dryness in the end. Overall still a very, very nice Black IPA.
