Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

Draft@Brewdog Leicester. Pitch black beer with a strong slightly off white head. The aroma is mildly malty and roasted, and the flavour has bitterness and good smooth roastedness. Overall a nice dark ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

My first black IPA, a very nice discovery! Dark as the night, with a small light head. Smells and tastes of malt and coffee, but the aftertaste is slightly more bitter than I would have preferred. Very nice beer overall, will have again.

Pours a deep black with moderate tan head. Aromas of grapefruit, bubble yum, and ’dank’. Flavour brings an odd fruityness that is difficult to discern. Maybe bubble yum again. Light roastiness from the dark malts. Dry on the tongue.

Ei humalainen, vähillä menee liian viinaseksi. Jos olisi paksumpi niin olisi erittäin hyvä.

33cl bottle from Systembolaget. Batch 321. Best before 2014-12-30. It poured a pitch black colour with a medium big light-brown head. Aroma is alcohol, coffee, liqorice and dark caramel. Flavour is sweet with some bitter notes. Lots of roasted malts and caramel. Soon after coffee appears and then hints of wood and alcohol. Small, but lasting notes of liqorice. I’m usually not a fan of black ales, but this was really good.

Beerfest Asia, Singapore on 27/06/15. 33cl bottle. A lovely creamy hopped Black IPA. Almost black in colour with a small beige head. Medium carbonation and body. Aroma heavy in malt, caramel and hops. Silky smooth creamy sweet mouthfeel. Roasted malt, chocolate flavours with a long lasting bittersweet hoppy finish.

Brown to black colour, small off white head. Mix bewteen fruitiness and black malts. Taste is fruity and dark malts again. Nice, good balance, like s tout or porter with a good swing of hoppiness. Smooth and tasteful.

Jet black body, adorned with a beautiful mocha coloured head. Wasn’t expecting a lot of hops, but the Simcoe hops shine through brilliantly on the draw, and mid tongue, and then roasted malts, light coffee and a hint of mocha get big on the swallow. I want to call it balanced, because it is, but that word also insinuates "safe" in my mind and there is no playing it safe going on in this beer. I’d buy cases of this if I could find it. So delicious.
