Bottled, occasional
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

Flaske: Sortbrun let uklar øl med et fint skumhoved. Duften er let brændt ellers velhumlet. Smagen er igen brændte malte og masser af humle. God mundfylde. Black IPA vinder langsomt på mig. Godt eksempel på denne øltype.

Deep porter or even stout-like pour, big roasted coffee, toast, pine, grapefruit and citrus aroma and flavor, some abv burn but not much. Long bitter finish, rival to Stones SSRA.

Bottle. Nose is roast with heavy chocolate and nice hops that really suit the ’style’ well. Pours pitch with an enormous tan head. Taste is smooth roast, light bitter with slightly more acrid tang (the fabled Guinness sourness, at turns), very light lactose and only slight sweetness (the tang is the star here!). Medium-low chocolate, hops are there but it seems there’s a role reversal: hops as the immovable backbone, deep malt allowed to rattle and flourish. Medium body with inky character, and enjoyable enough.

Draft at Three Fires. Dark roasty malt, light anise, and sweet caramel malt aroma. Black brown with a small tan head. Dark roasty malt, light ash, anise, and spruce hops flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation.

Draft @ BrewDog Aberdeen. Aroma of fresh brewed coffee, some pine and grassy hops. Black with tiny tan head, which is lasting. Taste of coffee, tropical fruit, citra hops. Moderate bitterness, balanced light sweetness. I love how the burnt malt taste stays in your mouth. Finish is hoppy. Soapy texture. Average carbonation.

Pours opaque black, with a beige, dense head. Coffeish aromas with bready malts, mingle together with very fruity, nearly sweet developing hops, defined by orange, grapefruit and berries. Tastes of muddy, earthy malts, while molasse, chocolate and burned toffee arise a recognizable sweetness. At the same time hops develope a crisp fruity bitterness, which lines out fine coffee notes, also adding to the bitterness in the end. Very smooth mouthfeel, with a decent hop-dryness in the aftertaste. The overall balance is unsual good, concerning the usual hop aggressiveness of BrewDog, really no ingredient developes an outstanding dominance. Taste devolopes very fast on the palate, sweetness, cream smoothness along with tropical, zingy fruits - and vanishes just as fast, leaving a watery nothing on the palate, until a gentle bitterness leads out, with a suble dry finish.

Bottle from Brusin ales. Pours black with a half inch of khaki foam that fades quickly. Leaves a good amount of lacing. The nose is an absolute knockout. It’s got this resiny thing that as you inhale the scent somehow grabs onto my nose hairs and yanks down. Kind of thin on the tongue but the roasted malt really shines through the really clean finish. This is nice!

Pours black color with minimal head. Aroma is grapefruit and roasted malt. Tasting malt, citrus and a bit of coffee. Pleasent low carbonation. Body could be a bit richer, but nevertheless a very good beer!
