COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, occasional
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

Small bottle. Nearly black body with a medium beige head. Nice roasty and hoppy aroma. Thick mouthfeel. Tastes like a very hoppy stout. The roastiness rounds the hop sharpness and at the same time the hopiness doesn’t let the malty backbone dominate. Well drinkable.

Black with a 1.5" head. Aroma is all pine hops like a big, black IPA. very smooth palate. Little to no roasted malt Character. Just enough to let you know it’s not an AIPA.

Schiuma marroncina, fine, abbondante e persistente. AROMA: floreale, biscottato, tostato, molto gradevole. AROMA: all’attacco è dolce, biscottata, leggermente caramellata e tostata. Vira poi in un amaro mai invadente e molto gradevole. La birra scivola bene sulla lingua. Veramente ben fatta, si fa ricordare!

Dark brown to black, tan diminishing head. Heavily hopped, dominating hops aroma. Flavors of alcohol, coffee, some dryness in the beginning, bitter. Full body, complex and challenging beer. Interesting, but not among the best.

Dark brown, medium tan creamy head, nice lacing. Some chocolate and roasted malt aroma with medium hop and pine notes. Medium bitterness and some light sweetness on palate. It is good beer, but this hops and malt aromas are mixed. I appreciate more when they are separated with nice transition, beer has better taste than.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

A very fruity aroma with a cool look of label. The taste maintains some of the fruitiness but does not stay long on palate.

UPDATED: APR 22, 2016 330ml bottle: Pours black with a creamy tan head that lingers. Aromas of caramel and prunes. Hints of roastiness with a medium bitterness. Medium bodied and medium carbonation. Overall a hoppy ale with roasty notes.

I bought the bottle at Amstein Vevey. It is a good black IPA. The body is a deep black color and white and brown foam. The taste is bitter, hop and roasted malt, few vanilla and not so watery.
