Bottled, occasional
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

(33 cl bottle from Ølbutikken; BBD: October 10th 2013; Batch #318) Pours black with a beautifully dense, tan head. Decent retention, good regeneration and beautiful lace. Aroma is fresh, simcoe-like herbal hoppiness. Oily texture, medium carbonation, medium body and a rather bitter finish. Taste follows the nose with added bitterness. Somewhat agressive but in a refined and very smooth way like a hitman. Girlfriend says "It has a subtle cola-note to it. It’s bitter but it’s okay."

Pours deep reddish, blackish with beige, frothy top leaving light lasing. Aroma- intense and beautiful hops, citrus and spruce, a bit orange peel. Taste is medium sweet and super pleasant throughout medium bitter more towards aftertaste. At the beginning it was more rousted malts in flavor, but soon enough they left place for hops to shine in flavor. Medium bodied, light astringent mouthfeel, light dry finish, soft carbonation. Pleasant IPA painted with dark malts.

Hop forward beer with a slight coffe chocolate finish. So crushable. Smells chocolates. Just like all other brew dog beers, this one does no disappoint Malaclypse in coor with a tan head. Had at revolution. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 330ml bottle on 27/7/2014 (shared with Butz). Pours a deep brown with the barest of heads. Has a pleasant light aroma of fruity hops with some roasty notes in the background. The flavour features toasty malt and lots of sweet citrus and stone fruit. The bitterness is quite firm and balances the sweetness out nicely. Has a fairly creamy palate and average carbonation. This is a very nice black IPA. It has a bit of Feral’s brilliant Barrique Okarma to it, though it’s not quite as good.

Tropical hops and roast malt aroma. Dark cloudy brown with adequate off white foam. Coffee and chocolate malt flavors but lacking complexity. Nice bitter dry finish.

Bottle. About 1 month from bottling. Pours pitch black with a nice frothy head that fades very slowly and leaves some webbing. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate, roast, burnt toast, and pine. Tastes pretty roasty with a moderate pine hop taste. Subtle chocolate and dark bread as well. No sweetness at all really. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is a little chalky. Medium to thick body. A decent Black IPA but I’ve had many better.

Bottle shared by Todd on man night. Aroma of fudge, pine resin, and a decent dark citrus malt. Pours black with small to medium tan head. Taste is roasty chocolate cake, pine, grapefruit, and a mocha finish. Very nice black IPA. Not the hoppiest I’ve had but delicious.
