Bottled, occasional
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

Bottle, Tesco Galashiels. Sneaked this onto the wifes online shopping, must try that again! This has a rich malty nose but the high hop content is apparent, an interesting aroma, I can’t say I’ve come across anything like this before! As expected, this has a good bit of body, again big on (roasted) malt, but the citrus edge of the hops quickly comes to the fore...there’s a lot going on here, quite sweet but it finishes clean and it lingers well! A cracking brew!

Bottle. About 1 month from bottling. Pours pitch black with a nice frothy head that fades very slowly and leaves some webbing. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate, roast, burnt toast, and pine. Tastes pretty roasty with a moderate pine hop taste. Subtle chocolate and dark bread as well. No sweetness at all really. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is a little chalky. Medium to thick body. A decent Black IPA but I’ve had many better.

Bottle shared by Todd on man night. Aroma of fudge, pine resin, and a decent dark citrus malt. Pours black with small to medium tan head. Taste is roasty chocolate cake, pine, grapefruit, and a mocha finish. Very nice black IPA. Not the hoppiest I’ve had but delicious.

Poured from 330mL bottle [batch 109; best before 16/04/15]. Near black with tan head. Aroma has a balance of citrus hops, roast malt, caramel malt, and chocolate harmoniously competing without outshining each other. Taste has a similar balance wherein each flavour can be individually tasted with just a mildly dry finish. Yet, because nothing is really dominant, it lacks the real punch that would lead to a knock out.

Brown head over a dark black body. Hints of grapefruit in aroma. Medium body that is slightly slick. Bitter finish with hints of grapefruit and a slight sweetness that pokes its head out now and then.

2014-06-28. Black body with a nice creamy tan head. 3++ Aroma of leafy green hops, light roasty dark malt. Flavour is rich. Dark malt has light roast, fruity undertones, mild green leafy hops hides sneakily in the under layers at first but slowly building to prominence. Very light sugary caramel hints. Smooth medium bodied palate, soft carbonation. Very nice. On tap at BrewDog, Glasgow
