COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, occasional
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

On tap at Camden Brewdog. Opaque black beer, tidy pale tan head. Smooth palate, mild carbonation. A little dry and slightly soft. Smooth dark malt with mild lacto and supermild roast. A bare whisper of red berry fruits. Minerals and smooth dry finish with a very mild bitterness. Something of a fresh air beer and I would venture nowhere near hoppy enough for a Black IPA, in fact not too much hop here at all. It’s on okay black beer but is really flirting with blandness. After a stunning run of beers in 2012 Brewdog are 2 for 2 tonight in the wimpy beer stakes!

Bottle from Amstein, Switzerland, 7.2% ABV, batch 318, bb 10-10-13
Black color with medium sized beige head. Nice aroma of resiny hops, over the roasted malts; intense, harmonious. Good body strength, with round mouthfeel, dark malts flavor, some more roastiness later, and powerful but not exaggerated bitterness; the hop qualities are rather hidden, but present; long final, with some citrusy touch.
Vibrant, smooth, zesty; very good.
