COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Libertine Black Ale is a 7% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it.

Very good beer, complex and full. Deep aromas, peach, red fruits and spices, with hop hints to orange peel, coriander and fresh leaves. Perfectly balanced, smooth, refreshing and elegant.

Pours a very dark brown with a soapy tan head and some red highlights at the edges. Aromas of pine, dark roast malt, black coffee and a hint of spice. The taste features a double whack of bitterness - hop and roasted coffee - giving way to some more typical IPA flavours of lemon, pine resin and pepper. Didn’t pick up any chocolate, but there was plenty of black coffee. Finishes pretty cleanly with a cinnamon-like aftertaste.

Flaske fra polet: Brewdog selv sier at dette er en "wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop". Epic betyr iflg ordboken "extending beyond the usual or ordinary; extraordinary, momentous, great", libertine "loose in morals" og awesome betyr fryktinngytende. Brewdog er et bryggeri som sjelden eller aldri skuffer, men deres egenomtaler blir ofte for mye. Et meget godt øl på tross av all selvskryt.

330ml bottle @Cimmeria, Oviedo. Some hoppy, pine aromas. Pours black with frothy tan head, persistent, good lacing. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Taste is mild bitter, some fruity notes, roasty notes, well balanced with decent body. Quite enjoyable. Some dry and warm aftertaste.

330ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a large light beige head, which lasts very well and leaves very good lacing. The aroma has Vienna coffee and mild dark chocolate malt, blended with grapefruit, herbal and pine needle hops. Strong citrus hops notes of grapefruit and lime up front are joined by some pine. The lime lingers into the mid-palate, where it is joined by bitter cocoa and smoother milk chocolate malt notes. Lime, lemon and a kick of pine resin hops come through in the finish. This is a very enjoyable black IPA indeed.

Countbeer (2921) - Best of Eindhoven ohne Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - JUN 7, 2013
Bottle: Batch 318: Label says 7.2%ABV: Served in a Chouffe glass: Medium to a bit smaller sized, slowly changing, light brown to (dark) beige foamy head on top of a black colored beer. A good black body, even blacker than some Imperial Stouts floathing around, and that for an BIPA, looks good. Aroma has lot of floral tones like herbs, plants, hops and nettle, some roast, hints of caramel and light coffee/liquorice tints. Flavours of bitters, coffee, hops, roast, nettle and floral tones, some hints of liquorice, malt and wood roast, hints of dark and bitter fruit like raisin and grapefruit, nice smooth creamy hints and some liquorice wood. Aftertaste is smooth bitter with roast, hops, liquorice, floral and light coffee tones. Very nice. Low carbo, soft creamy mouthfeel, medium to lightly fuller body and a creamy texture. Damn, good roast, good bitter and nice hop floral tones. And it’s balanced.
