COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, occasional
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

330ml bottle from Warners at the Bay. Pours black with a medium foam. Hoppy nose, slightly floral. Not quite as intense as I expected it from the description and the ratings, but still strong. A well-balanced, tasty BIPA.

Sampled this on tap on my first visit to the Ottawa Bier Markt. Pours a dark brown colour with copper highlights. Beige head with decent lacing. Beautiful fresh hoppy nose. Nice dry mouthfeel with a little tart. Hop grass taste over mild roasted malt with sweet notes. Light bitterness lingers. Quite a nice brew overall, but the roasted malts are a little hidden by the hops. Good for some I guess.

Black IPA, I feel this beer is not, more likely a moderately bitter porter, which some may argue is the same thing. Whatever, it tastes good enough. Aroma is a bit off-putting, but overall an alright brew.

Tap at Brewdog helsinki. Wonderful sweet aroma, nice head and thick body. The taste is just like a black ipa should be: smoky, with a long finish. Great!

On tap at Biermarkt. Candy peach and catty aroma with some bittersweet chocolate accents. Opaque black under a lasting light brown cover. Flavour is slightly medicinal orange peel up front (Pacific jade?) with bittersweet chocolate and a grapefruit peel finish. Medium bitterness. Medium body, medium carbonation, slightly smooth.
