COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, occasional
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

330ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a large light beige head, which lasts very well and leaves very good lacing. The aroma has Vienna coffee and mild dark chocolate malt, blended with grapefruit, herbal and pine needle hops. Strong citrus hops notes of grapefruit and lime up front are joined by some pine. The lime lingers into the mid-palate, where it is joined by bitter cocoa and smoother milk chocolate malt notes. Lime, lemon and a kick of pine resin hops come through in the finish. This is a very enjoyable black IPA indeed.

Hop forward beer with a slight coffe chocolate finish. So crushable. Smells chocolates. Just like all other brew dog beers, this one does no disappoint Malaclypse in coor with a tan head. Had at revolution. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Tesco. Pours a jet black with a nice tan head which lasts. Incredible mix of aromas. Fruity mangos and citrus along with pine, coffee and chocolate. Intense hoppiness with well balanced flavours of fruity chocolate and coffee hints. Very nice.

From a 330ml bottle on 27/7/2014 (shared with Butz). Pours a deep brown with the barest of heads. Has a pleasant light aroma of fruity hops with some roasty notes in the background. The flavour features toasty malt and lots of sweet citrus and stone fruit. The bitterness is quite firm and balances the sweetness out nicely. Has a fairly creamy palate and average carbonation. This is a very nice black IPA. It has a bit of Feralís brilliant Barrique Okarma to it, though itís not quite as good.

Tropical hops and roast malt aroma. Dark cloudy brown with adequate off white foam. Coffee and chocolate malt flavors but lacking complexity. Nice bitter dry finish.

Bottle. About 1 month from bottling. Pours pitch black with a nice frothy head that fades very slowly and leaves some webbing. Aroma is sweet milk chocolate, roast, burnt toast, and pine. Tastes pretty roasty with a moderate pine hop taste. Subtle chocolate and dark bread as well. No sweetness at all really. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is a little chalky. Medium to thick body. A decent Black IPA but Iíve had many better.

Bottle shared by Todd on man night. Aroma of fudge, pine resin, and a decent dark citrus malt. Pours black with small to medium tan head. Taste is roasty chocolate cake, pine, grapefruit, and a mocha finish. Very nice black IPA. Not the hoppiest Iíve had but delicious.

Poured from 330mL bottle [batch 109; best before 16/04/15]. Near black with tan head. Aroma has a balance of citrus hops, roast malt, caramel malt, and chocolate harmoniously competing without outshining each other. Taste has a similar balance wherein each flavour can be individually tasted with just a mildly dry finish. Yet, because nothing is really dominant, it lacks the real punch that would lead to a knock out.
