COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled, occasional
Libertine Black Ale is a 7.2% wickedly decadent black beast of a beer that has been hammered with the epic Simcoe hop. With a drinkability that defies its colour and depth of flavour, Libertine delivers a dark hop bomb combining the west coast hop awesomeness of an IPA, the dark and indulgent malt flavours of big stout with a lightness on the palate that bellies the punch that this beer packs. Bags of flavour and loads of hops. We intend to bottle some of this batch for those not lucky enough to make it to a BrewDog Bar to try it. ABV from 7% to 7.2%.

Pours very dark brown with a large head. Nose shows piny, resinous and slightly fruity hops. That’s pretty much it, just a bit of roast as well. Much more roast as a flavours but also a fair bit of the pine and some of the confectionery-like fruit. Could use a bit more carbonation.

Bottle into tulip glass, opaque deep dark brown color with tan head. Aroma of coffee, cream, light chocolate and fruity hops. Taste adds notes of roast malt sweetness, grain, molasses, black coffee, light smoke and citrus/piney hop bitterness. Medium body, low-moderate carbonation, dry with roasty fruity bitter finish. Kind of a coffee’ish compared to other blacks IPA’s, pretty good.

Draft: Cloudy, rubied-brown with a creamy tan head. Creamy, coffee malt aroma. Taste is coffee/chocolate with grapefruit and orange peel bittering. Did I mention creamy? Very nice.......

I liked that it looked like stout but not as burned as stout. Leaves nice aftertaste in your mouth after which you could drink another one with ease.

Bottle from the Grumpy Goat. Extremely dark ruby - almost black. Hints of coffee aroma, and peaches. More peaches in the taste, liquorice, and bitterness balancing sweetness. Extremely well balanced and tasty beer - best I’ve had from Brewdog. Hope it becomes a core beer for them!
