3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark brown tan head fast dissipating Very little aroma seems to be highly carbonated still Slight alcohol burn thin body but typical of porter. The rum does much to improve the porter. Maybe better with a dark rich rum instead.

09-NOV-2012, bottle from Ølbutikken, @Ulkløbben meeting @my place.
Dark but clear brown with low head.
Roasted with dark fruits.
Quite strong alcohol presence. Port-like wine caracter. Could that be the rum barrels that I now read about?
A little tartness from malts. It all sounds very rough, but actually it comes out very drinkable for 11,5%.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Zombier, Málaga; batch 176, bottled 05-12-11
The color is very dark, not completely black; medium sized head, reducing quickly into a thin layer. The aroma blends some roasted malt with chocolate, wood, and light firewood; original and therefore appreciated. Good body structure, less round than expected though; quite good flavor of dark caramel, with traces of chocolate, light prunes; the bitterness is correct; the alcohol is quite evident but not disturbing. The barrel aging in rum has added some layers of complexity, and it’s more drinkable than other Imperial Porters at a similar strength.

Almost black. Small beige head.
Vinous, roasted aroma with loads of dried, sweet fruits; raisins, prune, figs.
Very sweet flavour with even more sweet fruits; mostly raisins and dried figs.
Low bitterness and carbonation.
A bit too sweet and alcoholic.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
In short: A sticky sipper like so many others.
How: Bottle 330ml, consumed approximately 6 months after the beer release, relatively fresh for a beer like this
The look: Near black body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose has a lot of black liquorice candy and a good amount of roast. Taste has plenty of sweet raisins, soft black liquorice candies, burnt wood, tar, soy sauce, a shot of black Sambuca, black berries. Body is thick-slimy and carbonation is rather soft. Alcohol is very apparent and it really bites in the finish. Strong sweetness sensation with sticky candies in the after-taste. I could feel some wood in there but not specifically Rum barrels. All in all this is just another big monster beer, moderately enjoyable when you want to slowly sip on a big beer. I enjoyed this one on my hotel balcony in Flåm with view on the magnificent fjord, yep, there are some things money can’t buy, and I’m really happy beer isn’t one of them.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle @ home. The pour’s deep brown with a tiny tan head that quickly disappears. The nose is of boozy wood, rum, hot raisin cake, hints of vinous berry and mild cocoa powder, cinnabon. The taste is very sweet raisin bran cereal, boozy wood. You definitely get accents of rum. Runny toffee. Mild chocolate. A bit thin on the long finish. This drinks to it’s abv. Soft body. Overall, a decent porter, though not one I’ll rush back to.
