Smells of whiskey and wood. Red color with very thin head. Taste is malty upfront with a huge whiskey aftertaste.

The base of this beer tasted like a west coast barleywine. Chewy mouthfeel. The whiskey provided an interesting exra layer. Nice toffee and scotch flavors with an herbal hop bite to it.

33 cl bottle @ Olutravintola Pikkulintu. Batch #243. Bottled on 07.05.2009.
Pours dark cloudy orange colour with minimal head. Aroma of sweet caramel malts, ripe dark fruits, toffee, earthy aromas and some spices. Flavour is sweet caramel malts, candy sugar, plum, raisins, ripe fruits, spices and toffee. Reminds me partly of Mikkeller Santa’s little helper 2009 and partly of Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock. Very complex and surprisingly balanced brew.

330ml bottle @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki

Batch 243, bottled on 07/05/09 - Pours murky brown with a small head. Aroma is quite malty with notes of vanilla, oak, whisky and caramel. Malty and sweet taste with heavy notes of raisin, oak, vanilla and caramel. Sweet, sticky and warming finish with slight notes of whisky. Well balanced, although just a bit too sweet for my taste.

Pours a dark reddish brown colour with a small foamy head on the edges. Aroma of sweet nutty malts, raisins and some floral notes. Flavour of heavy, strong, sweet malts, raisins, candi sugar and bitter hops. Full bodied, sticky mouthfeel and a finish of strong sweet sugar and alcohol. Very good and tasty.

Wow, the smokiness of the whiskey barrels eeks up slowlike, and just slips in on the end. clean finish, with a malty bill that’s sold well by the hot alcohol notes of the barrels. haven’t had one yet that was SOOO warm and whiskey-esk. rock on mikkeller! rock on.

Tasted on 8/27/11 from a 330mL bottle purchased at West Lakeview Liquors, batch 243 bottled on 07/05/09. Pours an attractive, very dark, opaque, ruby red that lets just a bit of light through, with a thick beige head that slowly recedes to a spot of lace, and a decent collar, leaving lacy residue along the inside of the glass. The nose is caramelized with burnt brown sugar, toffee, maple, vanilla, a hint of char, and a bit of alcoholic heat. The flavor is very malty with the vanilla barrel treatment coming through more on the palate. There are also flavors of caramel, toffee, burnt brown sugar, maple, and a bit of green bitterness on the back. The body is full and oily with light carbonation and a very long maple, vanilla oak, lightly charred, and lightly bitter finish.

33cl bottle picked up awhile back and finally ticked. Cloudy dark amber in color with a lasting light tan head. Nice caramel and sweet toffee aroma with resinous and citrusy hop notes and sherry. The flavor has caramel malt, fairly sweet with some toffee, with nice sherry-like oxidative notes, light fruits, and mild hop bitterness. Medium-full bodied and somewhat syrupy with medium-low carbonation. Actually pretty good stuff.
