3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by durwoodx. Thanks Darrell!
This barleywine is hazy and brownish orange in color. There is approximately an inch of head that generates a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is clearly that of barleywine, with scents of alcohol, sweet malt and caramels. The tastes follows suit. The beer lacks the complexity that can make a beer of this genre intriguing and irresistible. The body is a bit thinner than I would prefer, with a solid carbonation level. Overall, a decent beer and worth a try if you are a fan of the style. Ideal for sharing, as it’s definitely best enjoyed in small quantities.

Thanks Tim and Rachel! Deep orange pour with a white head. Aroma of whiskey, sugar malts, light fruits. Flavor is similar once again with these beers with touch of iodine. Not bad at all.

33 cl bottle @ Pikkulintu. Batch 243: bottled 07.05.2009, no BBE info
Aroma is heavy and sweet with ripe fruits, some strawberries, woody notes, hints of harsh malt and sourness. Flavour is sweet with malt, some ripe fruits, woody notes and hints of berries. At the beginning whisky stings a little but it turns into smoky towards the finish.

Cloudy red - brown beer. Sweet rich malt provides a heady mix of Port wine and Cherry Brandy! Then sweetish toffee - caramel. Touch of peach and other yellow fruits. Finishes with sweetish hops and a little aniseed alcohol. Nice mix of flavours!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Batch 406 bottled on 2/15/11. Label says 2010 and 13.8% ABV. Maple pour with an extremely short lived beige head. No lacing. Dark brown sugar aroma. Full flavor but unusual. I get strong dark licorice in my mouth with sweetness. Maple flavors come forward but that could be residual effects from my contemplating the color. there’s some hop and roastiness flavors coming through now, along with booze. The brown sugar comes forward after the sip is gone. Interesting. Complex is too string of a word. I’d stick with unusual...but good.

Bottle - 330ml. Dark amber body with an average beige frothy head. Complex malty/hoppy aroma with fruity, woody, and some subtle vanilla hints. Robust hoppy taste with fruity and piney notes. Ends with a long, strong, warming bitter finish. Very well done!

Dated 07/2009. Muddy caramel with scant beige head / Nose of cooked fruit and bourbon / Medium to full body, sweet and somewhat syrupy, but with some hop balance, and long finish / Flavors of caramel, coconut, cooked orange and grapefruit, dates, raisins, oak, and bourbon / An interesting, mellow old thing, possibly lacking the brighter flavor profile of the best, but still a treat.
